It took place at the Jordan Valley Medical Center on Feb. 21. The woman left the child with nothing but the clothes on his back and a note which read: This kid is rude and ungovernable! I do not want him in my house at all! "I don't think I'm necessarily a bad mother. I got more like overwhelmed," said the mom. FOX 13 News is not using her name in order to protect the child's identity. Salt Lake City District Attorney Sim Gill said there are resources available for parents in these situations. He said what this woman did was not acceptable. "Whether you physically abuse a child or you abandon a child it can have physical scarring or emotional scarring so those are all great concerns for vulnerable children who are not in a position to protect themselves," Gill said. The mother was charged with child abandonment and child abuse. Court documents state the boy told hospital staff that his mom hit him with a spoon, leaving a bruise on his arm. The mom denies hitting her son. She said she had recently separated with her husband, and was left alone to care for all four of their children. She couldn't handle her son all by herself. "He was calling me names, he was calling me the B word, he was pulling his pants down in public," said the mom. The boy was placed in foster care while the mother and father have since gotten back together. The mom has been visiting her son, and said she wants him back and he wants to come back. If convicted this woman faces up to six years in prison. -------------------- From embedded link http://fox13now.com/2016/03/09/west-jordan-mom-accused-of-abandoning-8-year-old-son-at-hospital/#/ WEST JORDAN, Utah -- A West Jordan mom is facing child abuse charges after dropping off her 8-year-old son at a hospital with a note saying she didn’t want him anymore. Well.. We are responsible for our actions & inactions.
So this woman must be charged & blamed for her actions. Then round up the the bio dad / legal dad/ residential dad..... (Whatever) & charge & blame him for his in actions. This child, like all neglected & abused children has TWO bad parents, not one. |

Sounds like the little chit needed a spanking... but that's not legal either.

Sounds like the little chit needed a spanking... but that's not legal either. Could be. But this kid having lack of respect for his mother or society is also 'bad parenting'.. Imo |

wow, don't people who cause deaths in drunk driving accidents get worse?
that seems an extreme consequence,,,,,hopefully she just gets probation |

It's a tragedy, but I've seen as bad happen up close. Someone I know, had their mother put them out the front door of their house, because she was frustrated with him, and told him to go away.
He was three at the time. She was later diagnosed bipolar. Jail doesn't help the mentally ill, but nor does ignoring them, or worse, declaring that they are somehow GOOD parents, because they overly punish their children. |

"I don't think I'm necessarily a bad mother. I got more like overwhelmed,"
If a person is "overwhelmed" by an 8 year old then they shouldn't have become a parent IMO. |

I'm totally against child abuse.. and I feel for kids that get abandoned.
At least she took him to where he would be taken care of and something done.. Seems the system was not working for her.. And anyone that has had kids around that age specially boys and separated from their spouse and they are not around their dad as much. Let me tell you have a son that is ADHD in that same predicament and I assure you the mother would be more then overwhelmed... I have been there done that with only two kids.. But I had my ex mother in law help me and well I did believe in the paddle when needed... With support you can deal with a child that is acting out.. Seems to me the system prior to placing him in foster should have had him tested. They could have found out there was something wrong with the boy. ADHD is not easy to deal with those that have no clue may think the kids act out due to bad parenting. Kids act out many times cause there are problems that need to be tested. Sad to say many kids don't get tested cause parents don't want to admit there is something wrong with their kids.. I was one of those but my ex mother in law keep pushing so I had my son tested and found out he was ADHD. And was able to learn how to deal with him when he got frustrated or angry and tried to take it out on his sister.. It is not a easy road but it had nothing to do with bad parenting... I do not think it is right to give up a kid but I do commend those that do realize they can not handle them.. I would rather see a mom/dad to leave them at the Hospital, Fire or Police Department then to keep them beat them and abuse them.. Only problem I see here is the mom and other kids should be reviewed if it is the mom that has medical issues she needs help as well as the other kids.. But it might be the boy has some serious issues, that need to be dealt with.. I mean come on he pulls his pants down in public you can't tell me that is a boy in his right mind at 8 years old.. Without the whole story is is hard to condemn her for what she did... I think it was a much better option then what could have happen if he was in a abusive home... |

Got it. It's the fathers fault she became overwhelmed to the point of abandoning ONLY one child? Got it. It's not ideal that people have children they abandon and can't support but the world would suffer because it would be underpopulated? Got it. Is it also OK that over 70% of black children are born to a single parent in order to prevent an "underpopulated world" even if the parent can't support the child? You're trying to defend a bad parent by making EXCUSES for her bad behavior. |

The woman deserves prison time, as does any adult who can be deemed an "accomplice".
As well as a lifetime ban from any contact with minor children. |
yeah, prison,, that fixes things and makes families so much stronger,,,,

Dumping children makes for a better society. Right?
no
but logic dictates the solution should be something that will improve the situation instead of make it worse you don't protect the child from taking it from a bad situation to a worse one |
I can see why,
a demographic that gave cause for coining the term "dumpster baby", would be so opposed to jailing parents who abandon their children. Self preservation. |
not sure what all the demographic nonsense has to do with it
my logic was simple, you don't make a childs situation better by disrupting its family even longer than an initial moment of overwhelmed bad judgment would have |

The kid is in foster care, he is out of his ' situation', and at least legally observed & protected. He had NO family. Whom ever that guy was was not around to do his duty. Guilty The mother could not or would not do hers, & she ALSO abandoned the child (just in a different way). Guilty .BTW: you do realize this case is about some F@cked up white people & your defending them? : |
