Topic: Are amish people cool? | |

I find it kind of odd that an Amish guy would be wondering around So Cal looking for work. He may not be Amish at all. I'd check him out a little more before giving him the keys to my house.

I would have to agree...but I heard that when they reach a certain age they can leave and see the world..then decide to go back and be Amish or go...not sure though.. |

Here in Southwest Texas we have Menonites. A tribe of them left Texas because of persecution from the churches. They went across the border into the state of Chihuahua. That's the state were the Mexican Revolution started. Today we have these Spanish speaking whites that are very cool. They have lots of ranches in Mexico. I one time was stranded out on a lonely highway on the outskirts of Chihuahua. Broken bering on my car. A bunch of cars passed me by. Then I said whoa a gringo! He and his family poured out. I said can you tell me how far the nearest town is? Is there a mechanic?
They looked at me and asked if I knew spanish? Yes? They all spoke spanish. They told me that it was getting dark. He took me to his ranch to spend the night. The cooked toghether. No TV or radio. I asked if they had a phone. No need for one. The next day he took me to get a friend to fix my car. I tried to pay him for his trouble. He said he was just helping his fellow man. I payed his friend for the repair and the parts. The family asked me if I was an indio? I said si. This made the kids laugh. The night before they had asked me if I was really born in California. Had I seen the ocean? Was it pretty? They are fun people living in a native way. I really liked them. |

It's "rumspringa" and it varies from colony to colony just what is allowed. |

Yeah that was my worry too but after talking to him and seeing his naive nature, it felt fine to hire him. He is strong, hardworking and polite. I was chit chatting with him, he told me about the ways his people live and it all sounded so strange to me that how in faith of lord these people stop themselves for doing anything bad. In this corrupt world we still have people who are so nice and helpful. |
