I'd say yes. :-) most important is that you keep these values in yourself.

Now days without a binding contract then don't count on it..... sad but true..spock

I still believe as my dad taught us to take a person by their word and a hand shake seals the deal..

I have taught my kids the same but the world has changed so even if you want to take someone on their word alone then expect the un expected..

As far as someone saying they will do something for you ect small stuff then yea I still believe in their word..

Any thing beyond that get it in writing~~whoa

Do people stand by their words this days?

Not stupidly or blindly.

Honor, dignity,self respect, truth.

Mean less with the internet and 24/7 surveillance via "social media."

"OMG! I asked her out but she said no she has a boyfriend but her facebook page says she's single! Why are people such liars!?!?"

"OMG! They didn't respond to my email on a dating website but I saw their profile said they had been online since I sent it. Cowards without common courtesy! Where's the honor?!?"

"OMG! I saw that teacher post pictures of her spring break to Facebook, where she was totally drunk. Where's the self respect and dignity of the teaching profession?!?!"

Honor, dignity, self respect, truth, were never absolutes people lived as shining examples at all times, every day, in every situation.

But with the internet every single little thing can be nitpicked and argued with for hours, days, weeks, forever, and compared and contrasted to others, since far more of a persons personal life is on display.

So what you get is people expecting others to live up to some higher ideal of absolute honor, dignity, self respect, truth, that no one ever could and no one ever has and others figuring out "meh, in for a penny in for a pound, why even try," while people are still living the same type of honor, dignity, self respect, truth, etc as ever but it's ignored to focus on those times when they aren't.

It has historically ALWAYS been so, that some do, and some do not.

More people think they do, than actually do. Because it takes real work, to even know what your sense of honor even IS.

I only treat people how they treat me. If they show me they can't be trusted, I very quickly erase them out of my life for good. There's no need to carry on a friendship just for the sake of it. I don't think many do stick to their words. I find it arrogant and selfish, to plan things with someone, but then just abandon all of it, without even an apology. People like that obviously have problems. Not that I know what kinds of things they're going through. Not sure I want to know. laugh. It's pointless keeping a friendship going, with an ignorant person.

Honor, dignity,self respect, truth.

These are huge concepts that have many personal interpretations; especially when applied to others. It is really dangerous to get sloppy in applying morality in your own life but the reality is that people are human and make mistakes and sometimes there needs to be some kind of grace. Are some things in-excusable? Yes in my world there are some absolute boundaries.

somewhere over the rainbow...
I believe their are still some ...
good people out there even though ...
some have called me naive ...
an sometimes don't believe those ...
that say one thing do another ...
self respect I have some of that ...
but always seems like i put way to much ...
pressure on myself to do something...
that will hurt me in the end ...
truth...don't watch pretty little lairs... laugh
and your only getting the truth sometimes ...
less your on the internet and believe Ale Gore ...
invented it ...
and if your looking at Kim's nudes ...
might want to say how you thought...
you typed in Honor & you where looking ...
at something honorable...
and she just happened to pop up ...

Yes some people stand behind their word, whereas most do so to hide... examples ghosting, lets do lunch ...

Belief in yourself is first . If you don't have that no one will .
