ok i have an older comp i've been working on and i'm having issues with the mouse and keyboard both locking up if i don't move the mouse for a couple of minutes.also all the lights on the keyboard will start flashing and i end up having to reset it.i can't remember what mobo it has but it has duel 800 mhz processor,96 meg of ram (the ram is hard to find for it and kinda costly frown )60 gig HD,and i'm running Win 98 on it.

i've tried reseting the keyboard settings in the bios like a friend told me but that didn't work.any help please?

thanks

Hmmm, your mobo is probably tired, but not sure why it would lock up like that unless there is a power setting that is not unlocking when you try to move it? Did Win98 allow for a standby?

It could be not compatible with Windows '98, maybe try and older keyboard, like say pick one up at Goodwill for a buck or two. than see if that's the problem. Same with the mouse, they are cheap to try a few other models. GL drinker

Same as these guys said.. With you only running 96MB of RAM, any kind of modern mouse and keyboard are going to use some of that. and running WIN98 which I'm hoping it's SE in the least, as for hard to find ram... I suggest you go to this website www.4allmemory.com I found my ram there when I had a Vectra VE HP, for a great price too, just let it scan your computer.. The Keyboard/Mouse problem may also be because of a driver problem, Win 98 was known to load universal drivers for things such as the mouse keyboard speakers and the monitor.. so try to find the specific drivers for them... but do try to get older models of each like these guys said first.

i have a very old IBM with windows 98, thought I would be smart got a wireless keyboard and mouse all they did was give me trouble. took them over to the daughters place hooked them up on her computer a much newer model no problem at all she also has windows 98, brought the things back home they refused to work, had to get the old keyboard and mouse back out.

start watching second hand stores

you may be able to find a computer

with compatible ram cheaper than

buying the ram its self

and you may even find an upgrade

for a lower price

what size ram do you need pc100 i am guessing

and what is the cap in your board 200 or so

maybe you can even find some on the curb in a throw away

in a comp on trash day

a lot of this is just thrown out with out realizing it

good luck

you could try

inserting you 98 disk and see if it will let you

run it as a repair or fix

rather than a install been so long since i used 98

i do not remember much about it

but do not do not try to go to xp

on that system you think you have problems now

again good luck

ok,i would have replied sooner but had to hand the comp over to my uncle for awhile.yeah the memory is PC100,i have 2 more 32 meg sticks but my mobo doesn't want to recognize them.the keyboard and mouse both came from my Compaq that died less then a year ago and it was still less than 2 yrs old.the Win 98 version i'm running is SE.i've had so many different OS's installed in that comp but still having the same issues.i just want to chunk it out the window grumble
