I've seen the video from before the cops exit the vehicle. You don't hear a siren, and I don't recall any flashing lights.

The video actually shows that more than once, Ms. Bland was educated as to the reason for the stop,(her personal safety) and given the suggestion by the officers to walk facing traffic so she can see the oncoming vehicles and jump out of the way if needed. She can't see the traffic coming up behind her if she stays on the side of the road she was on.

In fact, I seem to recall there was at least one side of the street that had a sidewalk that she could have been walking on, and not the road.

They routinely ask for ID of anyone.

She had her hoodie up (hard to tell her race from behind), walking in the street while flapping her arms and there were sidewalks on both sides of the street. If I had seen this, I probably would have called 911. She could have caused an accident. The cops were polite to her.

I wonder if Texas cops give bicycling enthusiasts the same safe advice?

Depends on the street or road conditions. Two incidents here involved students walking to school with the traffic. Both were killed, one has not been solved. Better to see what is coming at you than from behind you. Especially if one is wearing earphones.
Bicycling is to go with the flow of the street traffic. We have some bike lanes here especially for cyclist.

Bikes have to follow the same laws as cars on the street. This idiot was walking in the street (not even near the curb or on the sidewalks). God forbid these cops care about her safety

She may have word smithed her article but she was trying to stir something up from the get go, what with the picture taking of the officers/car.

Good to see officers in positive footage. Glad for the recording and especially glad they are doubling up on patrols, even for a simple stop such as this. Simple stops can sometimes turn deadly.

In the end, this woman has an ethics issue in her writing, especially since her own personal experience was the subject of the writing piece. She provided a clear negative slant when there was none. I'm sure most companies have ethics and moral clauses. She should at least receive a warning and hope she doesn't get fired.

She has done damage to her own reputation as a writer, as her readers may no longer TRUST what she writes now.

since she was almost run over by wearing her hoodie and not seeing what was going on around her, and if you noticed on the video, she never knew the police was behind her and drifted in front of them as well while walking... everything the police said makes sense, she can see whats coming and won't get hit from behind...

I couldnt hear but what I saw was her walking RIGHT NEXT to the curb, as opposed to in the street where cars should be driving,

they stopped when she appeared(to me) to be CROSSING OVER(diagonally) the street


but in any case,, not a battle worth fighting but every right to write about how she felt,,,,

there's a way to approach someone on the street if you're a cop and care for their safety... carding them isn't one.

It's stoopid and intimidating, this woman was obviously distracted by her fitness routine, they could have easily driven up beside her without getting out of the vehicle and nicely explained that she nearly got hit and to walk much closer to the curb, common sense would say there'd be no need for pics of the officers or a sermon about walking on other side of road, this was a residential street with no traffic at all btw. But Nooo it was an all out investigative encroachment on her space and time.

Cops ask everyone for ID here. It's normal. They ask for reports or sometimes check warrants. Driving next to her? What if she crossed into them and she was hurt? She was walking on the street (we don't know how busy that streets is really) and flapping her arms. There is a sidewalk on both sides of the street were she is supposed to walk.

Damn seem it doesn't matter how they handled it, people would criticize. I live in Texas. I know to keep my ID with me at all times and what a sidewalk is for. The idiot was in the wrong.

i've never talked to a cop and not had them ask me for an ID, it's just what they do... and the cop explained to her why he asked, which they have never done for me...

it's not like the cop knows who you are, and for all they know, the person could be a wanted criminal... doing their job is not racism...
