Just sold project dakota. I wanted something to freak out the fast and the furious kids and the honda kids crowd. Don't get me wrong those kids got imagination and desire and have built some 9 second machines that are mind blowing screaming sh!tboxes on wheels. And I highly admire them and respect them. Sooooooo......

So I want a budget screamer. So I go to the scrapyard one day with my buddies and I find a red 1987 dodge dakota shortbox in great shape. 2.2 four cylinder, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive, no power steering. Weighs 2600 pounds. Paid 800 dollars for it and brought it home. My freinds laughed and giggled and called my truck cute. That is until.......

.....until I pulled into my buddies garage one afternoon with the dakota and they are all standing around drinking beer and laughing and joking about my cute little truck. It has a topper on it and blacked out windows so they had no clue what was in the back or what I was up to. I said "hey guys I'm going to work on my truck in here today so I'd appreciate your help." more giggles and laughter. And I opened the hood. More giggles and laughter. I never said a word in defense of the cute truck, never got mad or nothing. My freind brian caught on and looked at me funny and said "oh you f er! What's in the back of the truck?" we went to the back and opened the topper and tailgate to reveal..........

To Reveal a overmodified shelby 2.2 four cylinder completely chromed in a crate. With everything. Banks turbo, nos, waste gates, titanium exhaust, mallory ignition, computer modules, and 2800 bucks worth of parts including an n-9 dodge 4 speed. My beer drinkin buddies just stood there in shock mouths open. Uh guys hey guys hello umm 14 bolts and 5 hours of our time and that 500 horse four cylinder will be in there. They are waiting for us to use the dyno at the speed shop!

That afternoon turned into liquid testosterone as my freinds helped me put that mas, madison built huffer under the hood. Men bonding on a simple project in the garage over beers. I explained to them that I wanted to scare the fast and furious crowds at street races and just have fun with the cute little truck. I mean whose gonna be scared of an 87 dodge dakota 4 cylinder right?

So the break in mileage on the motor was the drive up to the speed shop. Imagine the guys face on the dyno when all the truck did was spin the tires on it because there's no weight in the back its a pickup truck. Then picture all my drunk freinds getting in the back to hold it down on the dyno making the symbol of the cross and turning 375 horse at the tires and everybody jumping out screaming like little girls saying "man that's crazy! Man that's dangerous! Dude you're gonna kill yourself! Buddy when you tromped on it it came alive like the metal was living and breathing!" I said "yeh cool, huh?"

So the cute little dakota was a learning experience. It was a daily driver for a long time and got unbelievable mileage. I learned it liked hi octane fuel and couldn't run on anything under 94. I learned that 80000 volt mallory racing ignition systems eat themselves alive. I was constantly replacing plugs and wires. I learned that it wasn't a burner that I thought it would be at the dragstrip because it would spin the tires and adding weight in the back just slowed it down. But I did learn something cool and new right away with my cute dakota. How much new front fenders and inserts and new heavy duty coilovers cost! Because...........
