Anyone who can help me out?
I'm looking for interesting things in southern Alabama, so far haven't found anything yet, haha.
I'm going to Enterprise, will visit Panama City too. So I'm looking for things in that area, preferably that don't require 6+ hours driving. OTherwise there's the added cost of staying in a hotel.

NOT looking for family things, kiddie things, I'm not into Disney kind of stuff either.
I like history, culture, native American Indian, spiritual things. Crystal mining (and sales).
And anything else that's really worthwhile, typical American things to see or do. (Please don't mention Disney World, lol).

Anyone?

I wandered around that area some years ago and the one of the strangest things I saw was the collection of manatees. I can't remember exactly where I was but it was near Panama City.

I'll look further.

There are Indian mounds near Tallahassee but that is over a hundred kilometers from Panama City.

In Mobile, AL there is a battleship USS Alabama to tour with several planes with folding wings. Nearby is the submarine SS Drum, also open to tour. There is a restaurant on the shore that was very nice and most enjoyable - good food, good scenery. It is about 160 to 180 miles from Panama City, so could be a nice day trip going along the shore. You might find some interesting stops along the way.

Nothing more American than going to Talladega speedway and watching a NASCAR race.

Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville,
has a rather interesting museum and information center.

Mussel Shoals, had one of the best music scenes... in that part of the country.

Lots to see in Alabama.

Yep Mobile can be fun. And if you go to Mobile Ms Crystal, you might as well head west abt 150 miles on I-10 and hit up New Orleans. Best food youll eat, great music and ya gotta do Bourbon St lol...definitely NOT family oriented...just STAY on Bourbon St laugh

I'd love to go to New Orleans. And in a way it'd be stupid to not go when I have the chance.
I'll have to discuss it with my girl and her hubby, as it's some 4-5 hrs drive meaning we'd have to stay the night if we wanna do and see something. Meaning it'll become costly.
But I will look into how much spending a night would set us back, cos it does really appeal to me!

Well, less than 2 months to go! I'm getting increasingly excited!
My bed in Alabama is made, a brand new bed at that :) (they didn't have a spare yet).

And it looks like we may go to New Orleans after all! Not certain yet, but my girl is going to look into hotels. If she can find a good deal in a bed bug free place, we are going.
I really want to go to New Orleans, and being relatively close to it, it'd be daft to not go.
So I gotta look up where I want to go in New Orleans. I'm interested in cultural historical stuff and in the evening wanna feel the vibe of the place as well
