Good day my friends of mingle2, well, I'm going on a funny direction this one around. I can sense that the last topic about music & elite forces wasn't a hit but I'm going post what I know best for now on . I know animals & people dating topics. This time around I want to create a fun, heart felted, quite cute direction on this one. Okay as a kid we all had at least one pet in your home. Some have cats, some have dogs which I did a German Sheppard Name ISIS, some had birds, others had ferrets, snakes, even lizards. Let me tell you a short story, I have a buddy that lives in Miami Florida, I been knowing this guy for years , I even was his best man at his wedding. He's very wealthy and he invited me to his suburban mansion in Miami. so I was already excited to be in Florida where the hottest ladies sun bath on the beach,coolest waters at shore, and plenty of sunlight to make you feel like you doing a sequel for Scarface 2...lol. Ironically it was a mansion pool party, there was some A-List stars which I won't mention, sorry no need to advertise who there was but they was there. My buddy asks me do you want to see my latest pet.? so I'm thinking a place like this he probably got a talking bird or snake. He takes me to the rear of the mansion and it was a lake that runs into the everglades. So as I'm watching the lake and albino alligator swimming along the lake. I said there's a alligator in that lake? is that normal? He tells me its his. he owns a adult male alligator name "chops". Wow, that phenomenal I like that. so my friends of M2 , lets have some fun with this, think back to when you first brought a pet, was it exotic? was it jaw dropping? or was it a regular pet? I never had a exotic pet but I want one . I'm thinking about a boa constrictor snake. What's your exotic pet choice? Do you want one ? or Do you already have them? so spill the hot tea with this one!

I have a box turtle and a bunny.

I know this is hard to believe, and I know you won't believe me because no one ever does.

But I have a dinosaur, a T-Rex

I feed it cats and dogs from far off neighborhoods, but hey, this is just between you and me bro

African Python Boa Constrictor named Valimir, he was very passive.
They grow up to 6ft & eat live food; mice.
I had him for years.

At one time, I had 7 snakes & 2 toads & the live food ,mice & crickets....

Crickets are annoying... never again.

Not that it's alive anymore...
But, I have a spotted owl "perched" on the mantle.

The taxidermist did a really great job.

The box turtle I have owned since I was in my 20's I am now in my 30's lol. My Mom owned him before me so I am not sure how old he is.

I have also owned hermit crabs watching them molt was pretty disgusting but they make neat pets.

cool , your turtle is it a regular turtle or a small mud turtle? im very curious about turtles. I wanted on as a kid but was never was able to have one . maybe I still want one . what does they eat?

North American box turtles are mainly terrestrial turtles, although they do spend some time in shallow water (Asian box turtles tend to be a bit more aquatic). Compared to aquatic turtles such as red eared sliders, they are more challenging and complex pets, and are not the best choice for beginning turtle owners. With a potential life span of up to 100 years, these turtles obviously require a long term commitment (however, the average life span of captive box turtles is probably closer to only 40-50 years).

Picking a Healthy Turtle
Try to find a captive bred turtle, as wild caught turtles tend to be stressed, dehydrated, and prone to disease as a result of their stress and environment during capture/transport. In addition, support of the wild catch/pet trade in box turtles may further threaten their numbers in the wild (and taking in native turtles is illegal in many states). An alternate source is shelters or rescue groups.

Find a turtle in the late spring or summer months; it is best to avoid purchasing a box turtle during the fall or winter when it should be hibernating. Make sure the turtle feels "solid" (i.e. not like an empty shell), and has clear eyes and nostrils and a firm, solid shell, and no swellings. It is wise to get a stool sample checked by a veterinarian and deal with any parasites, and take the turtle to a vet immediately if it is not eating shortly after arriving home (it may need rehydration). Also keep in mind that box turtles, like other reptiles, can carry Salmonella so careful hygiene is required during handling of turtles and cleaning their enclosures.

Housing Options
A well designed outdoor pen, providing appropriate substrate, humidity, access to water, and protection form predators will work well in appropriate climates (generally speaking, this is probably limited to areas where box turtles are indigenous). In fact, most box turtles will only thrive if kept outdoors, for at least part of the year. If kept indoors, the utmost care must be taken to provide an appropriately sized enclosure with provisions for heat, humidity, and lighting. An indoor set up will require considerable space and requires good landscaping, a heat source, a basking light and a UVA/UVB lamp (important for Vitamin D and calcium metabolism).

Feeding
A varied diet must also be provided. Box turtles are omnivores, but different species and different aged turtles tend to have preferences for either more animal protein or more vegetation in their diet. For example, in some species of box turtle are more carnivorous than adults. They must be feed a variety of foods from both groups including plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, insects, low fat meats, pinky mice, and other foods. Hibernation
North American box turtles hibernate and this complicates their husbandry somewhat. Appropriate conditions must be provided sheets for hibernation with a warning that turtles that are not in good condition/health should not be allowed to hibernate as they will not have the reserves and strength to survive. Do everything possible to ensure good health prior to the time of year that hibernation should begin. For unhealthy animals a period of hibernation, when all bodily functions slow considerably, hibernation will only make health problems worse, if not kill the turtle.

I have...wait, let me rephrase...MY SON has an iguana...
WE also have 2 red eared slider turtles, 5 goldfish, 4 dogs, and 2 cats...
It's kinda like a petting zoo around here. :) I love it.

I raised calves as a teen...and grew up with horses and goats...
I've also had pet snakes in the past...my last snake was so smart he'd climb out of his cage and hide on my stacked folded laundry! Eventually the cat got him. :(

I grew up on farms and was raised with sheep, turkeys , pigs , goats , chickens , ducks, rabbits, cows , horses and a pony.

Also when I was a child my parents (while still together) owned a pet store my sister and I spent time caring for the animals there.
