Have a feeling many things have changed since I've been to London.

London ... I liked it!
Camden was great, but I've heard it has changed a lot since I was there..

I remember standing on London Bridge facing Tower Bridge, which I really wanted to see. But totally oblivious I was actually looking at it. Till my son said "Those towers are pretty cool, mum!"
And me saying -whilst looking at Tower Bridge- "What towers?"
Then realising I was staring straight at Tower Bridge.

I liked the eye. And The Tower of course. Wanted to see London Dungeon, but it was too busy.
And the things I didn't see (cos I spent too much time in Camden, lol).... Shakespeare's theatre (can't remember the name now, someone help me out!), the Greenwich observatory thing.

But the main thing I loved was The Tower (the reason I wanted to go to London to begin with). And using the Tube was great.

the globe theatre i think you're meaning?

i've never really got the tower of London, yes it's a lovely old building with lots of history but there's thousands of those all over Britain

The Tower really appealed to me. It was the no1 reason for me to go to London, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I'm not into cities, seen too many, so in that sense it didn't appeal at all. After some 4-5 days I got utterly fed up with it, too much hustle and bustle. Too busy.

Seen part of the British Museum, but holy moly, that place is huge!

If I'd go again, I'd definitely give Camden a whirl. Dang, I loved that place! Felt right at home there, lol.

what's with Camden? i know it used to be the capital of trendiness for a while in the 90's but don't get the appeal.

maybe i'm just a typical Brit and don't get the appeal of a lot of things visitors do, and yes i like to wander around the old back streets of London rather than the main touristy places, i can't stand the crowds around buckingham palace and the like!

I suspect it has changed a lot, as they were already building new stuff very close by at the time.
The appeal was just the feel of the place, the type of ppl that were there. Huge mohicans, goths, punks etc. Small markets with funny stuff, little shops with peculiar and odd things, the food kiosks were great! Wonderful stuff, not expensive, had an Asian feel to it.
I just really liked it :)

Often tourists know more about a country/area than the locals do. Living in a tourist area, I notice the same thing here. As a local you explore far less than tourists do, also you got a different mindset.
When you go on holiday, you are far more open to other people, situations, more likely to ask questions and explore.

I've even once heard this as dating advice, to behave like a tourist when you want to meet people. And I find it's true. I'd sooner start talking to people in London than I'd do in my own village/area.

could have some truth in that, i grew up in a small town where a popular BBC sitcom was filmed and therefore it became packed with tourists, i could never understand this as although it's a lovely old town surrounded by beautiful countryside i never understood why tourists would want to come and wander round it!

i do like London as a city, but find the people ignorant, arrogant and rude, not all of them

maybe its because us northerners are friendlier?
