The gym I go to has a family community environment where we all get on. We encourage each other with fitness, healthy living. We are all mates
Yes I saw him yesterday when I went we laughed about it and chatted. And yes we still are friends with no ill feelings between us.

Thank you all for your input and advice.

he was minding his own, was using a gym you started the conversation he basically asked if u wanted a dat. e and u call him "not good looking enough" is that Americans being friendly???? next time choose people that are good looking enough to chat with I don't know what he said that was vulgar to be called ugly

In the gym I go to its normal to ask people how they are.
He didn't ask me out he asked if I was chatting him up which in my understanding he thought high of himself.
Looks had nothing to do with it
Like i said he thought high of himself and therefore my mouth went into action before the brain had time to think.
Why should I choose good looking people to talk to when in my eyes everyone is
I refuse to put people in categories because I hate judging.

I was only going by what you said in your opening post. I am familiar with the British phrase "chatting [someone] up," and in most usages I have seen, it means something like "flirting." Depending on the exact context and tone of voice, his asking if you were chatting him up (your words) sounds entirely logical and innocent. ESPECIALLY since he was ASKING if you were, rather than ANNOUNCING that you were, and then acting badly in return. As I said, I know that some people will take an innocent phrase and turn it in to something crude, and I couldn't tell from your description whether that was true or not.

And as someone else said, I do think, based only on what you say happened, that your insulting barrage was wild overkill.

I'm not trying to judge you or this fellow either.

you have a very good point sir..

made me think too of those lines "he was asking rather than announcing"..thank you for pointing that out.. I felt i stand corrected..

especially after reading ms. pacific star comment..:)

my only excuse is that in my workplace..that "phrase "is widely use in such context..

I felt I know where she's coming from in this..

aint we just all glad, they already chatted and laughed about it:)

wild overkill? overkill maybe:) we women who played chess..prefers a an overkill than a sicilian defence checkmate opening:)

Lightening up TMommy..lolbigsmile
