My daughter wants to be married during the Christmas season for all the decorations and feeling of Christmas at her wedding.

Very cool, BUT we know this can be a stressful time for guests to come. Especially OOT'ers.

So I'm gonna take a survey here .. IF it were you being invited WITHOUT your children (we are having a very formal night wedding)

Would you rather/be more available to come BEFORE or AFTER Christmas (after being the weekend between Christmas and New Years.

Thanks whomever weighs in on this ................flowerforyou

This is for December 2008 and NOT at Christmas time is NOT an option,. To save anyone suggesting that keystrokes. laugh

Ohhh, I like the weekend between Christmas and New Years. Nice break for a party when the post holiday blues are getting ready to set in. However, since I don't celebrate Christmas, it is not that big of an issue for me.

I have had friends that had Christmas weddings and they were so pretty.

Not to be obnoxious, remember this is HER wedding. She does not need to please anyone but herself and her groom.

I was married on Mother's Day. It also happened to be the day after my brother's birthday. My Rabbi told me not to worry about what other people said. It was our day and we should have it the way we wanted. The important people showed up. That was all tht mattered.

Exactly Michele .. it IS her wedding. I had a couple close family members 'b*tch' about it. I straight up told them that. she's been dreaming about this all her life.

I just told her be practical. some people, like gypsy, may bow out all together.

EXCEPTING .. we are keeping the guest list really tight and close friends only .. 150 total. 1/2 of that is family I think LOL!

wow. i only had 10 people at my wedding! lol

that is a small production. he he. but i would say after christmas when people have the deadline of shopping stress off their minds.

the week after is best... there will be less shoppers in everyone's way at the stores and their return lines LOL. That way unwanted Christmas gifts can become bonus gifts for your daughter and son in law on their special day!!!! Plan ahead too and give unwanted gifts at Christmas that are sure to bring a smile to your daughter's already glowing face!!! I've got so many more ideas that I just must use myself... be creative and have fun with all the possibilities, I know I will.heheheh I'm fading again! All in good fun Hope it works out. That's a tough time to compete for guests attention though. Many might be off visiting the far corners at that time of year!

Judy, I think prior to Christmas may be best, to save the more family oriented folks. That's a pretty festive time of the year and either way it's gonna be tough on you(double duty)! You can't please everyone! What your daughter and her groom want's is probabley more important than anything else! Good luck!

before
during might be way too hectic

thanks all .. Fay the problem with before Christmas IS the family oriented folks. concerts, plays, parties they all go to together.
We are asking them to come without their kids, or at least not bring them to the wedding.

When I say after Joyce, I don't mean during, but on the sat after Christmas, Dec 27.

See I think you still get all the festive look and feel, but let's face it .. the first couple days after Christmas are sooooooooooooooooooooo boring. LOL

Nothing really going on til New Years

Thanks Cleo .. John, Wouldee

Actually, we have what? 14 mos to plan this gig.

She has the most GAWJUS dress picked out. RED SATIN with white overlay on bodice. So so so Christmas.

See this is my fault. This LOVE for Christmas. I raised my kids to love the holidays and esp Christmas. Guess it worked eh?

Unless I was super close to the people getting married or lived nearby, I'd also pass on attending. Maybe you could have a nice reception sometime after the new year for the people who couldn't make the wedding.

Well like we said Bay .. it's only really close friends anyway.
Nice reception? That will be day of wedding .. the whole idea is the Christmas deco

As to New Years .. if I EVER remarry that's what I'll do .. New Years EVE ... love the idea! But her fiance doesn't want the actual new years.

Well, I didn't necessarily mean another reception. I just meant maybe organize another gathering for people who would have liked to share in the moment. It could just be a brunch somewhere, a bbq or maybe just a potluck at your house.

Congrats on the wedding, btw! How wonderful! flowerforyou

ha ha good point John. I don't think that's his reasoning though, more about New Years it'self but not sure what ..

Ya Bay thaks for the congrats drinker I figure the only ones missing will be OOT'ers. Locals will be able to show ... and their the only ones that would be willing to do another gettogether.

You guys are great .. I appreciate this input. I think the betw. Chr and NY is best but again, bottom line it will be her decision. I also produce a monthly 'gig' and it's the weekend before Christmas .. that Friday, the 19th .. so no way can I give anything when my focus is at work. *sigh*

I do love all the planning with her though. drinker
