Growing up in small rural communities (that don't exist anymore thanks to the internet and smartphones) you see the damage this stuff can do to real people. I learnt very quickly how to amuse myself on his expense. Lol 17 years is a long time. One time I took the spark plugs out of his car and he didn't know why it wouldn't go. Ever had an ex call you late asking for you to take him/her back? Yes. He was very drunk. And if so, did you? No. Being in a relationship with a narcissist more than once is a crazy idea.
And if not, did you hang up feeling so damn good that you went outside and began howling at the moon? I didn't go outside. I just went back to sleep.

One thing I seem to be good at, is making my ex's absolutely CERTAIN they never want anything to do with me again. So no, never had one call and want me back, whether I left them, or they left me, or both.
I did come close once. Long time ago, a woman who I almost hit it off well with, and who stayed with me for a few days, called back and chatted amiably. I took whatever she said to be her way of "letting me down easy," so I chatted politely and that was that. I felt good about that, because I didn't waste anymore of my or her time, but howling at the moon, no. |
