Topic: What is Bible position on masturbation? | |
---|---|
Romans 13:13-14
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. I checked up the meaning of sensual and it is explained as "relating to, devoted to, or producing physical or sexual pleasure". Apart from the linkage of sensuality with sexual pleasure, is there any interrelationship between lust and the physical act of masturbation? What prompts a person to masturbate? Is masturbation a means of feeling sexually satisfied by a lone process that does not involve a second party? |

God has warned us against lusting and or "desiring someone/something greatly" God speaks against lusting, because that is putting something of this world above him. |

The Bible is silent on the topic of masturbation, but that fact doesn't stop some people from reading into the Bible things that aren't there.

There are a few passages that speak about spilling seed on ground There is one passage in Genesis that talks about Onan refusing to impregnate his widowed sister-in-law Tamar, in violation of Levirate marriage laws that were in effect back then. Onan went through the motions of having sexual intercourse with Tamar, but as he was about to ejaculate, he pulled out of her so as to avoid impregnating her. In short, Onan's sin was his use of birth control when it was unlawful for him to. |

Genesis 38:8-10 (ESV):
Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother." But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whenever he went in to his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother. And what he did was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also.

Hasn't this topic been on before? I doubt. I know someone tried to bring it up on a different thread of "Christians with same sex attraction" |

The Bible is silent on the topic of masturbation, but that fact doesn't stop some people from reading into the Bible things that aren't there. But is the Bible silent about lust? Is it not lust to lie in bed all by yourself (an example) and imagine that you are having sex and go on and on until you climax and discharge through your imaginations and actions? Is it not lust to see someone and begin to imagine how that person could satisfy you sexually and go on and on in imaginations and actions until you feel sexually satisfied? |

I'm not quoting 100% but I remember reading that if your body burns you should take a wife (husband). |

The Bible is silent on the topic of masturbation, but that fact doesn't stop some people from reading into the Bible things that aren't there. I decided to check up the meaning of masturbation/what it means to masturbate. Below is what I found: 1. "stimulate one's genitals with one's hand for sexual pleasure. 2. "stimulate the genitals of (someone) to give them sexual pleasure. 3. "Masturbation is when people touch their own bodies for sexual pleasure". 4. "The touching of one's own body, especially the genitals, for sexual pleasure" I would like to ask the question, what may have happened in a person's mind and thoughts and feelings before getting into masturbation? Masturbation is lust. The bible calls lust a sin. |

The Bible is silent on the topic of masturbation, but that fact doesn't stop some people from reading into the Bible things that aren't there. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 (below): For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; |

Re: "I'm not quoting 100% but I remember reading that if your body burns you should take a wife (husband)".
Yes, you are correct. One verse I have checked up on this is 1Corrinthians 7:9, which I reproduce below: "But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion". |

Masturbation is nothing but lusting after someone(s) if it's one or multiple. God has warned us against lusting and or "desiring someone/something greatly" This statement doesn't take into consideration curiosity. But I tend to agree with Jesusmyall in that it is for sexual pleasure and I believe, therefore, a sin. |

Masturbation can help us find sexual release when we cannot control our desire nor satisfy it through a marital relationship and in this sense it can be helpful. However it is almost inevitably associated with sexual fantasies and this is where it can go wrong and lead to sin.

However it is almost inevitably associated with sexual fantasies and this is where it can go wrong and lead to sin. IT IS LUST! THE BIBLE CALLS LUST SIN. Please read the multiple verses of scripture shared on this subject. In the course of reading responses, I had to check up the meaning of masturbation and it clearly tallies with the same description you are giving here about masturbation. It is lust! |

Amen! Funny thing, In my 45 years of living on this earth and 25 of those 45 I've been in the Lord, I have never met or even ever heard of Any human being who has never masturbated or at one point stopped never to do it again. We crucify our fleshly desires daily, but it's a process! As we grow in the Lord we may stumble like a child trying to walk, but we repent and start walking again. We gain strength as we grow! If we just can't seem to maintain any consistent control and are always falling, we need to be married, period! We operate according to the measure of the gift of God in our lives. We all have a different measure of grace and we all are dealt a measure of faith too. God knows what we r able to do and not to do. DON'T EVER FORGET to trust not only in his grace(power to overcome) but ALSO in his MERCY. JESUS had THE SPIRIT without measure. We have it by measure. SO, I don't care how disiplined we may become, we will have to struggle and fight this flesh till we pass. We better trust in HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, not ours. Amen?
