I have 2 dogs. Love me, love my dogs. They are there for me thru thick and thin. they depend on me for food, medical care, and my love. They are both rescues, and they don't deserve another rough road to travel. I will not lock them up when I have company, they just don't understand that. There are, however, limits set for certain circumstances. I will make them behave, and tell my company what to do to help keep them behaving in a civilized manner. if my dogs take a disliking to someone, or vice a versa, then most likely it's gonna be a no-go.

Trust your dogs. Those I have shared my life with have never been wrong.

Pets or no pets?

I'm okay with a dog.
...If it's a "real" dog rather than a purse dog that constantly shakes and yipes.

But if it isn't trained worth a damn that tells me something.

I'm not talking something major like a blue heeler that's used to herd sheep, but if it's just a house dog that thinks it's people? Then you're a bad pet owner and enjoying playing with innocent lives just for an emotional fix.
And more than likely, that's how our relationship is going to be.

Cats I can't stand.
I really do think they should all be rounded up and used as meat to feed the homeless.
I would never date a woman with a cat.
I have never met someone with a cat that didn't smell like they owned a cat no matter how much they protested they didn't.
I've never met a woman over 30, that was single, that didn't ultimately treat her cat like it was her kid.

And boa's, spiders, birds, lizards, exotic pets, they're all disgusting.

When I worked as an appraiser I can't tell you how many times I went into a house and saw rooms just filled with aquariums and such dedicated to these animals, and they were always just the nastiest.
Lots of people had their homes foreclosed upon and sometimes they'd let all the animals loose in the house, or just leave them behind.

So, really, unless they live on a ranch and have animals with purpose, then I avoid dating people with pets.
No pets, for me.

I believe having pets anymore is ultimately cruel since their only real purpose is being a slave to/for your own emotional gratification.

Although, around here, there are constant reports of abandoned and abused animals. Dogs, cats, horses, roosters from cockfights, just abandoned or mistreated, or just left out in the arizona sun without water, which has really helped shape my bias.

I've actually only ever seen people that way with dogs... Cat's won't let you treat them that way, that's why they're cats. They got a mind of their own. Like we say, a dog's got a boss/owner, a cat's got personnel.

I don't like it when ppl treat a pet like their kid, regardless what pet it is. I've mostly seen this behaviour from people who do not have kids. So they don't know the difference between the two.
I got a friend, 53, never got children, she's like that with her two little (yappie) dogs. Irritates the he|| out of me. Mostly because it is so incredibly naive.
NO animal can EVER be like your own child, your own flesh and blood. EVER. Not possible.

Anyone arguing I'm wrong, either hasn't got children - and thus cannot understand the difference, or needs to see a therapist.

And again, never seen anyone display that behaviour with a cat. Someone who'd need that kind of emotional fulfillment likely can't get it from a cat... because you simply cannot order a cat around.

Yeah, you raised them yourself from what I understand..
Rescue / shelter animals are different. You don't know their past and they can suddenly yap, growl or bite out of the blue, because something got triggered. You try find out why or what!

And there are dogs that have been bred to be A-holes, like pitbulls. They been banned for a few decades over here, due to too many accidents. Heard the other day that since a few years, they're allowed again. Ridiculous if you ask me! They shouldn't be allowed to breed at all anymore. Let them go extinct, unreliable, dangerous creatures.

And lots of non-aggressive types that have been bred too many times, the wrong way or whatever, so they have their genes all messed up and aren't reliable anymore either.
So I'm sorry, I beg to differ with you ...

Oh, realize you didn't raise it yourself from 10 weeks on. ANd it's very jealous.. There you go ... trauma from being abandoned. Lord knows what happened to it... And lord knows what may surface in the future.
I'm always very careful around dogs... And around strange cats too for that matter, especially strays or shelter animals.

For me, if a guy I like happens to have pets that freak me out, the deal is off.
That would mean any creepy crawlers and slithering things.

And certain dogs, German shepherd, Rottweiler, pitbull, American staffordshire terrier, are a NO EFFING WAY!
And there are others, to me it's mostly intuiting. Some dogs feel okay, others don't.

Friend of mine has a French shepherd (Beauceron), huge dog, freaked me out at first, but it's such a wonderful dog, I wouldn't mind having one myself!

But if I haven't been there to raise it, preferably not. It's different if the dog and you have known each other from the word go, so you know all the ins and outs.

I've grown up with big mutha guard dogs, but one didn't come to us as a pup, once almost attacked me. And that one was huge!
My son's been almost ripped to pieces twice, absolutely horrible! Had the flesh hanging from his bones.. huge wide deep scars, and that was supposed to be a nice, friendly, domesticated dog that went nuts ...
So I ain't too keen on dogs.

i read most of the posts and i do understand everyones point of view but i would like to say for myself i have lived with dangerous dogs and freindly dogs it does depend how you raise them to how they may turn out but also they have individual personalities too. my dogs that i raised from pups are always well behaved and have manners i dont treat them like people but i dont treat them like animals either i believe that what ever you encounter should be treated with respect unless it doesnt respect you and i have also had a super dangerous dog amoung my pack that i rescued it certainly had very bad habits from its previous lifestyle but i was also able to understand why it was behaving badly like someone said it was traumatised by past events which made it not trust but after a long time the dog was able to trust me and began behaving for me which made me proud of him and like i said animals have personality like people which add to its behaviour they are not the same but we are all alike there is only so much diversity that can be in this world as long as there is respect anything with life will understand when its been treated with respect or not i hope loooooool

Oh sure we used to have lots of them
Few years ago when we lived on ten acres next to state land
I was always firm believer that a boy needed a dog for tracking thru woods and fetching sticks and sitting next to you when you eat a popcicle on summer day and lay next to your bed when they know you dont feel good

I would say 80% of the people who have pets do not deserve them.

They make a big show out of caring for the pet and forget it is a living breathing ANIMAL that feels pain when manhandled, improperly fed (oven over fed and left to go thirsty) that needs it's own kind to be truly content and healthy.

To often they are abused, neglected, and or just a nasty decorations and the owner is oblivious.

I agree with to often you know a human has a pet before you ever see it in the living breathing form. I refuse to sleep with anyone that sleeps with a pet. And I refuse to eat out of a home where cats are allowed to roam because their are few surfaces a cat can not get; especially kitchens. This is why often I will pass on a pet owner.

All that said I do care deeply about animals and have sacrificed my own comfort and safety for a pet/animal.

I do agree that many breeds have been compromised by inbreeding but more often than not a animal attacks because they are malnourished, dehydrated, brain damaged, in pain, or substitute bonded with a human and attacks or injuries when the human ignores the animals needs to wean or rest or cries for help and mistakes a parent assistance or disciplene. Even small animals are always to some degree going to be a predator in the food chain. What I think is ridiculous are people who keep exotics and do not expect problems. Ignoring animals have diseases that will not be passed on to humans is fool hardy.

sometimes they can be like that. My cats all gave the new kitty I rescued stinkeye and hisses until I reassured them with love and words and prayers and now they have accepted MOMMMY loves them just as much! Good luck with your new pup! Great it has you to love it, they are good for the soul.

Most animals liked me.I would not change a single thing with my bro. He told me he had a cat in the room. Then first he told me. I thought she deserved some form of love and well I asked my brother where he found him which was a dumpster. I knew a cat could not stay there. She brought her home.I stand by decide if a cat was found in dumpster she was brought she was happy. Just liked the time I brought home a dog name Shady. He is a black lab. If we had not take him home I heard the women son would have hurt Shady. I regret nothing. Then other day I read in article about black dogs not being able to adopt.I have no regret in that area that is. I do not care what color a animal should matter that is. I would choice a animal over somebody? Because they are actually there with you from the beginning. I love all my animals and all them have unique personally.
