for a social life, well at least to go out for the night every other week or so. im feeling really bad because I feel like I shouldn't complain and just get on with it. but the thing is im so tired now on the night that I go straight to sleep or just look up at the ceiling if I cant sleep, when I do that I come on here to chat. i have no sitting id have to hire and i don't want a stranger looking after my kids alone like that. are there any other single moms out there who are feeling the same right now. (i know i cant get a social life at the minute but im just feeling a little tired and wanted a rant because i have no wine in lol)

I was a single parent {of 1 son 4months until he was almost 3}; do they have any 'Single Parent Groups' in your area...something that you could arrange a bowling/skating - fun play date to greet & meet other single parents at?

Well, certainly...but out of that group --- net work a coop of exchange babysitting; barter nights out so someone can get out and exchange nights with some other mother so she can go another night!
See...that's where I was headed with that 'Single Parent Group'; you've gotta network your social structure that you have access too! People that you know and that your children know; at least try it for an hour or 2 to get it going --- bring it up when you get together next time --- see how many might be interested in barter/time share baby sitting to be able to get out of the house and 'LET THAT HAIR DOWN' LOL |

I grew up learning how to 'BARTER'; big on barter...swapping something I could do/something I had in order to obtain something that I needed without having to spend $$ for it. Being rather poor and with 6 siblings on a rural farm...made us flexible that way! Great skill set to teach those kids too! |

While I never joined a group, I did hear that some singles groups are very good. Such as "Parents without partners". I don't know if there is one where you are. But the point is that you should " let your hair down" once in a while. Mom's and Dad's need a break from being Mom or Dad sometimes. |

sounds like this single parent group is a good idea maybe?
<< single mom of a 14 years old high needs kiddo do I go out? hahahaha..uh no. I spend my nights doing schoolwork mostly on weekends if I need to get away for a bit I go see my oldest son and daughter in law for the day I have been doing this for a long time..even when I was married so I suppose it is just who I am now |

It is my firm belief every parent needs down time away from their children. If you don't have that time, then you not the parent, caretaker, NO You are the vibrant woman will be lost...
Take the time for you.. I am not sure how, but if there is a will there is a way.. I remember when my kids were little and I was finishing up my Masters, dealing with hubby's death was tough but I remember taking on afternoon a month for me...Take the time even if it is a walk in the park all by yourself... Best wishes. |
