hey guys!

I'd like to start what I consider an interesting debate! Do you think it is possible to maintain a distant relationship? If so, would you say love is to be taken into account or only friendship? Cheers :)

Well when you aren't with your LDR gal, make sure you are stocked up on lube.

Yeah...
Sometimes, it works out best, when someone is in
another timezone / zip code .

That way, life can be peaceful, and real dating
with real people can take place.

Actually Yes LDR"s can work with...
actually meeting in person
Actually communicating and wanting it bad enough
anything else is too personal for the public forums:angel:

Do you think it is possible to maintain a distant relationship?

"Possible?" Sure.
Anything is possible.

I think it's easier to maintain a distant relationship if you have a healthy relationship already established than maintaining a pseudo relationship completely built online.
e.g. you're married, but in the 5th year you lose your job, then get 6 months work on an oil rig vs. meeting someone online, from a different country, and you can't meet for maybe years, and even then can't be together in person more than once or twice a year.

would you say love is to be taken into account or only friendship?

I'm not sure I understand this question.

I don't think you can fall in love without meeting and spending time together. Not really. I think at best you can fall into kind of fanatical love that way. Like people who fall in love with Stephen King based on his books and all the secondhand and biased information they can get about him personally.
But that kind of "love" is mostly delusional.

I think it's (the bond of) love that allows an established relationship to survive long distance separation.

For friendship - yes

For love possible, but not probable

For me to attempt it, no way.
I need much, much, much more.
Like real dates & contact & interaction on a regular basis.

You're not starting anything. You're simply reviving a topic that has been pounded into the ground. Can it work? That depends on the people involved.

Is it possible! Yes! I know of three couples from the forums who are
now together, together and quite happy.

Is there a high probability? No. I know of way more than three couples
from the forums who are no longer together. I fall into this category and
do not wish to revisit it again.

I think the trick is 1) you have to plan to be together, together, in a relatively short
amount of time, and 2) your love for this person when you are finally together,
together, must outweigh the emotion of missing this person when you
weren't together, together. People tend to confuse how much they miss
the idea of being with someone to actually being with them and in love.

It is a crap shoot.

Ohhh OP...I know to you it is fresh, but as you can see us regulers tire of these repetitive subjects.....hahaha...don't get us started about the topics titled "love" or "sex"...

Anyway back to your topic....

I/we believe it can work, but it is certainly not for everyone and its not a relationship to be taken lightly.....
It is hard work that requires constant maintenance, every day you must phone, text, viber, skype, whatsapp....whatever...."communication is key"

One or both of you must make visits....I stress...this is vital in the bonding process.....
You also need a concrete plan on what you envisage your future to be....
Obviously one/either of you is going to have to move.....are you prepared for that?.....

We are making it work....our closest friends here know of our bond.....and our unique circumstances that led us to ultimately fall for each other.....this is a key factor in our success.....

LDR couples that make it work, will all have something special in that regard.....

Be prepared for a hard slog.....but if it is meant to be...it a wonderful thing... drinker
