.. I don't know !if it is my. apocalyptic..
. fear mongering ways... are just growing up, in the latter part of the sixties and seventies..... during the Cold War..... that makes me.. have a stockpile.. of necessities in my house.
.. no weapons of course... just food and... basic household items detergent soap.. and of course Kleenex.....lol... but for whatever the reason, thank God for my stockpile...
... just got down to my last !teaspoon of coffee..... before ,my stockpile..
. if I ran out of coffee... I would have to break into my camping gear... and retrieve that baby bottle, full of instant coffee...lol.. now I simply go downstairs.. to my stockpile room... oh and yes! it is a room..lol... it is like having my own little mini grocery store....... neat rows of. pantry shelves.... neatly organized, but overflowing with the essentials...
..... now !when I run out of coffee I simply going downstairs to the stockpile room... and retrieve another jar from the shelf... of 20 plus jars..lol..
.... my family members ,think it's a little bit odd... but they are just envious..lol.. I see how their eyes light up ,when they come into my pantry room...lol....

.... but sometimes the need! to stock up does become an issue.... for instance if something goes on sale..
.... I can't help but buy.. in bulk...
. for instance if coffee is regularly..
. $ 6.89a jar and it goes on sale for .2:89..... I will buy 10 or 12 jars....
... problem is you overspend ,on your grocery budget... buying wholesale coffee..... but then I justify it by saying.... but it was on sale...lol..

... do you have a stockpile..?
.... do you love your stockpile as much as I love mine..?.lol..
... and do you sometimes get carried away when things go on sale...?

I do! Steaks in the freezer at $3.99 / lb!

Pantry full of "stuff". Sometimes the crackers and other "hurricane" food can go stale but it doesn't represent a large investment.

yes out dated are expired food items..
. one must always... rotate incoming.. stock with old stock..ie.. the last item bought.. now gets rotated to the front of the shelf and the newest item gets placed at the back of the shelf.... thus keeping waste to a minimal.... and it's helpful to check expiry dates when you... shop for your stockpile..... no use buying items that expire in 1 to 3 weeks... I made that mistake with potato chips.... bought several bags... did not realize they expired in 3 weeks..... by the time I got to the last bag..... it was a month and a half past its expiry date...

Rotating old with new is a lot of work. I tried stockpiling and it was a headache making sure everything was consumed before they expired. Most just went to waste. I stopped stockpiling after that.

yes agreed.. it is a bit of work...
.. not so much in the can and dry goods department... I found.. things that were in my freezer... sometimes went to waste.... and in my second overflow fridge..... like bread and eggs.... cheese..... I do not stock up so much . on dairy products..... generally buy new stock right when I'm coming to the end of old stock.....

.. but yes it is work... but personally I enjoy it... I walk up and down the aisles with my clipboard... and Swiffer duster..lol... dusting and rotating stock as I go..lol....

I go to the cash and carry, once a month and stockpile some things, but most of what I buy comes from Asda, or Tesco, supermarkets. My mum gets me my butcher meat ( steaks, joints of beef, etc ) from the wholesale butcher that she goes to when she buys supplies for her snack vans ( food trucks ) and I give her the money before she goes.

Doesn't that stuff go bad? I don't stockpile but I can name a few things in my pantry that have expired shelf lives.

.. okay it's not a stockpile in the sense of.. hoarding food away waiting for the end of the world..lol.... it's a stockpile in the sense of your everyday pantry needs....

... so no things do not go bad because you're always pulling from your stockpile...... to replenish your cupboards. in your kitchen..

.... unless you're my oldest son. and his friends.. who use my pantry stockpile as their own personal little convenience store...grrrr...
... I constantly have to tell him take things from the upstairs kitchen.
. not from the downstairs .. pantry stockpile.....

..... pisses me off I go to pull a couple bags of cookies from the stockpile.... and him and his friends have consumed two or three bags of cookies... straight from the stockpile.... that initiates me to put into effect a Code Red... emergency restocking of the cookie section..lol

I know I threaten to lock the door on them all the time.... but I have a wholeshelf with sports drinks pop... juice...
... and there.. snack foods are in there as well..... that they help themselves to after school.... Thomas is pretty good about controlling himself in the stockroom...... he's such a little angel..xoxo....... it's just really Justin at night... goes and help himself...

.... and I would rather they get the concept.... rather than . me enforcing..
.. strict restrictions on their access..
..... but yes the thought has crossed my mind..... what I really hate is when they drink all the pop..... and I always put 4 or five cans in the overflow fridge for myself..... and the little boogers drink those ones as well...grrrr..lol

Indexed, sealed in food grade buckets or Mylar bags. Empty space filled with nitrogen, lots of dessicant and oxygen stabilizers. Most with a 25 year shelf life. Seed bank of heirlooms and herbs. Sealed 25lbs of black peppercorns and 40lbs of salt. About 50lbs of dried herbs and spices.

500 gallons of water, filters and distillation equipment.

Don't get me started on the med kit or security.

I don't stockpile. I might buy dry goods at Costco which last me forever but not food. My Mother has what we call "The Store" in their custom built fruit room in the basement. It's a 8'x12' room with shelves. It's crazy. There are only two of them and now one cause my Dad is in a nursing home. She rotates by date etc. She has 2 upright front door freezers. This is a woman of the 20's who raised 9 children. Old habits will never die.

Drives me crazy when I visit. I've hauled a brand of boxed chopped tomatoes on a plane for her because she can't get that brand where they live.

My only stockpile is ammo. lol If my house burns there's going to be fireworks.
