About 75% of those military ones aren't real though I bet? Just a shame that the ones who really are in the military and are genuine have to face this on this site? It's out of order, if you ask me and this site should sort these scammers out as soon as possible?

I agree, but that's entirely up to this site to allow us to do that though?

The reason so many people pretend to be military to run their scams is because they know that most people have a high opinion of the military. Here are few ways to determine if they are real or not.

Ask their MOS. A real military person will probably respond with a number/letter combination, such as 11B or 92G. Then they will probably explain what that means. If not, ask. 11B is Infantry. 92G is a cook. If they can't tell you in plain English what their job is, that's a scam.

If they tell you that they are Special Forces, Delta, Ranger, SEAL, a sniper, or any of that really cool sounding stuff, beware. That's a red flag. Less than 1% of the American population serves in the military and less than 1% of that number does all that cool stuff.

Ask what battalion they are with. If they say something like the 82nd Airborne, that's not a battalion. That is a division. And the 82nd is used a LOT by scammers because everyone has heard of them. If he tells you he's with the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 82nd Airborne, he could be real. That's an actual battalion. But maybe he just did his homework, so still beware.

Ask his rank. If he says he's an E-7 Master Sergeant, he's lying. E-7 is a Sergeant First Class. If he tells you he's a Sergeant Major, ask how long he has been in. If he tells you 10 years or less, it's nearly impossible to attain that rank in that time.

If he tells you he needs money for ANY reason, this IS a SCAM! Especially if he is deployed and needs to take care of his kids. His family MUST be taken care of BEFORE being deployed. If he does not have a family care plan, that is grounds for discharge, and he will not be allowed to deploy without that being in order.

If he uses horrible spelling and grammar, he is not likely to be military. Contrary to what some people want you to believe, the American military is very well educated and have a higher percentage than the population at large of personnel with degrees.

NOTE: This information is based on the United States Army. Certain details will vary by other branches of the military and nationalities.

If they really served in the military, they will display a high and mighty attitude. If you ask them to kiss you, they will give a woman a hard time and might even cut down her looks and sneer at her. Surefire test. I know firsthand.

My 2 nieces and nephew were in the Military. One niece is still in the Army. The other niece was in the navy and got out quick. My nephew got out of the Army after 4 years.

Are You Dating an Army Soldier or a Scammer?
If a soldier you're dating online asks you for money for ANY reason, it's a scam.
Ask him to give you his AKO email address rather than his yahoo, hotmail, etc. This will be his firstname.lastname@us.army.mil. All soldiers have an AKO account. If he refuses to provide this, he's fake.

Another sound piece of advice. It may not necessarily be first.last, but most times it is. If his name is John Smith, however, there is likely to be a middle initial and/or a number. And again, other branches will have their own, but it end with us . branch. mil. Just be careful.

American soldiers have become unwitting stooges for West African online scammers.
Some of these scumbags are using the pictures of soldiers who were killed in action to run their scams. It's sick.

Thanks. I didn't think an actual enlisted guy would post a pic of himself in uniform. Seems to be a lot of those!

Which brings up another point that I missed earlier. If the "soldier" claims to be anywhere in Africa, end the conversation right there. If we have anyone in Africa, those are missions that even those who are there and those who ordered the missions know nothing about. That's a big time OPSEC violation.

some do, but the best way is just report them to the mods and let them handle it... if i even think a chic is a scammer, i hit that button and move on...

but i'm educated on scammers, so they can't bother me much anymore...
