Are You sure it's the Bacon You like and not the Smoking and Curing process, instead ?
****************************************************************************************************************************************** I dare anybody to eat a slab of Bacon that hasn't been Smoked or Cured or Spiced at-all ! You'd be surprised to know just how-much of a process is needed to make it palatable. |

But u can get used to the smell of anything and it will smell good. |

Milesoftheusa...
You've noticed the same thing as myself... It's been over 15 years since I've had Bacon or Ham or Kielbasa or Pork Ribs, and 'NOW' when I smell it cooking I feel ill. There used to be a time, when I was a teenager, that I thought nothing to eat a pound of Bacon, all by myself. By the time I was 18 years old, I had Veracious Veins and Hemorrhoids so incredibly bad that I wanted to die. When I found myself not living with my parents anymore, I only had a limited budget for what I was eating, and most of the time it was just simple Beef Burgers and the problem receded. Every once-and-a-while, I'd go for a 'two for the price of one deal' on the deluxe Burgers with Bacon... And one-day-to-the-next the pain was right back with a vengeance. So, for the next couple of decades, I just avoided Pig related products in a casual way, till I met a Muslim man who explained what was happening to me. I'm 52 years old now, and I'm enjoying a measure of health NOW, that I didn't have when I was 38. I'm not saying that I'm exempt from dying (That Would Be Ridiculous) but, there is no doubt that my abstinence from Pork has contributed to my greater happiness. **************************************************************************************************************************************** As a controlled test... I strongly invite anybody to avoid all Swine Products for a modest length of time, so they can notice a difference in their own lives. |

Ok, so the smell of pork being cooked is no longer a pleasant smell to you. That doesn't prove your point. You are providing anecdotal evidence based on your own experience. I find the smell of tobacco being smoked in a pipe to be a pleasant smell, even though I no longer smoke tobacco in any form. Does that mean that maybe tobacco isn't so bad?

more likely, it's the smoking/curing/processing/burning or bbq-ing process that contributes to poorer health.
the chemicals and free radical that gets into the body are usually the ones that causes health problems in any cooked meats... pork just happens to be a very resilient meat to use for these... but i wont deny that a little less meat in the diet does help the well being of some people tremendously myself, i tend to feel better/happier if i lessen carbs and sugars... i like eating meat but i believe that pork/swine was considered "dirty" before because these animals tended to eat just about anything... even rotting foods... and were previously fed with discards... |

Really, a good cigar has never bothered my legs. It's also not about eating vast quantities of something I shouldn't either... Like I've said about those Deluxe Burgers, one strip of Bacon is all it takes. I'm confident that eating Pork effects everybody differently... It's just a question of time as to how it'll effect you. Remember, Your health is relative... If You haven't ever done a controlled test to make a relative comparison, of before-and-after, then You've got nothing to compare with. |

I can not find it but I remember reading a study by I believe it was the university of Michigan who did a study on the melting point of animal fat in the Human body. What they found was the melting point to flush beef fat from your body was 101 degrees. They said that beef fat would start flushing out of your viens after 20 minutes of arobic exersize or hard work. pork fat your internal temp would have to be at 105 degrees and this would only happen if you were almost deathly sick. This study did not make it on your nightly news. IMO the pork industry is very powerful. |

The auto industry is very powerful. We hear a lot about them that isn't positive. The banking industry is probably the most powerful, but we almost never hear anything good about them. The pork industry did not suppress a story. And one study doesn't make the story true. I remember a time when coffee was bad. Then it was decaf is ok, but regular is bad. Now decaf is bad and regular is ok. All kinds of studies are done that are later proven wrong. |

i always took pork fried rice back to work with when the muslims were getting annoying...
they didn't seem to like that very much... the smell of olive oil makes me sick, the pork was actually an improvement in there... |

Yes, Pork Lard does have a higher melting point then Beef Tallow. What-is-more, that likely contributes to it being more difficult to burn-off in the body. (As Milesoftheusa Has Said) ****************************************************************************************************************************************** As for the smoking and curing process... I'm very confident that isn't the source of the problem. The reason being I can eat all kinds of other products that must-be going through the same process, and they don't bother me in the least. For example, I can buy a Chicken Bologna that I can't tell the difference, taste-wise, from a regular Pork Bologna. So, I'm not missing anything in the way of taste ! ****************************************************************************************************************************************** Remember, when I was 18 years old I had Veracious Veins, and now while I'm 52 years old... I Don't ! I eat as much as I want in Halal Foods with absolutely no problems. |

It could be that your body just doesn't react well to pork. I have a friend who is allergic to venison. Is that proof that no one should eat venison? No. That is proof that he shouldn't. |

Well MadDog1974, I don't know of anybody who has completely stopped eating Pork related products and also, stopped eating processed meat with
'Bi-Product' in it (Just Another Way Of Saying They Put Blood Back Into The Finished Product) that hasn't only had good results for having done so. Here's my attitude as a person who's read three separate Holy Texts that all confirm the same one understanding... The Hebrew Texts say I shouldn't eat it... The Christian Greek Texts say I shouldn't eat it... The Quran says I shouldn't eat it... And, my Body says I shouldn't eat it. (Just How-Much Do You Expect Me To Ignore ?) |

I have a friend who is allergic to venison. Is that proof that no one should eat venison? No. That is proof that he shouldn't. Yes, an Allergy or an Allergen is a totally different subject. Like I've said before, I can't eat Shrimp and Prongs, but I can't expect to exempt others from enjoying them. What I'm talking about is much broader a problem then the occasional Allergen. I'm saying EVERYDODY sooner-or-later will have a systemic problem to their health if they continue to eat Omnivores, like Pigs. Some sooner... Some much later, but everyone will have something happen in time. |

Nowhere did I say you should eat pork. Apparently it's not good for you. But everyone has different tolerances for different foods and different dietary requirements. In fact, pork is a very small part of my diet. But religious texts that I don't subscribe to will not dictate my diet. I'm not a Muslim, so what the Quran says about dietary requirements doesn't apply to me. |

Very Well...
But, if You don't have any Religious Avocations, MadDog1974... Why do You bother to reply to this thread ? Better Question... Why bother with ANY of the General Religion Chat Forums posts ? |
