I know this more than likely has been talked about before, but WHY do men say they are looking for that special "girl"?
It's my understanding, from guys posts and profiles, that a lot of women state in their profiles to know the difference between their, there and they're. I DO get that however, I am becoming more and more aggravated with the term "girl".
Also, while I am fully on my way to upsetting some, do you want 1 woman or several women?

Are you looking for a woman or a girl?

They can slap my *** and call me madam, I don't care.

But I do think men have a tendency to use 'girl' as flattery indicating a younger woman.

On second thought....that might be kind of wierd.oops

I refer to grown females as women or ladies.
Girls are.....well..girls.
Although sometimes when I greet a woman, I may say "Hey girl".
Cuz I'm so hip.shades

The use of girl is a proper noun:
1) a female child from birth to full growth
2) a young, immature woman, especially formally, an unmarried one
3) a daughter
And there are four other descriptive meanings

Personally I make that mistake out of generalizing grammer usage. I/men do not mean to use the term girl in its definition referring to child, but its generalized meaning of female.

About 15 years ago when I accidentially referred to a woman who worked for Community and Social Services, and her organization as "GUYS". I used the term "GUY'S" referring to the organization. Of course she took offence and her reply was when I asked her "...How can you guy's treat people like that..." Her reply was "...Because I can..."

It is a generalized usage of words that we use not to offend, but learned as language changes over decades. We may not like it but need to accept that language changes; other examples: can't - can not, won't - will not, shouldn't - should not, and the list goes on in language change and usage.
