Here's how I combat the holiday blues. I have an entire set of dysfunctional holiday songs (like Parking Spaces, the Thanksgiving Song, etc) and play those almost constantly during those days.

Then I prepare the most unlikely holiday dishes and enjoy them while watching dysfunctional holiday movies like Bad Santa.

Yes, I am a bit dysfunctional lol.

Christmas bah humbug..lol. it is truly! what you make of it... when you're in a so-called.. functional relationship.. with family, and friends... it is a time to rejoice. .. it is the time ,to express your appreciation for one another...
.. exchange small token's... Of your appreciation for them.. a simple holiday card, laced with sentiment..
. perhaps a hand knitted scarf..mmm

.. but then!.there is the real Christmas.... do I have to go! to their house for dinner...lol... must !.I wear this tie.... Christmas.. Midnight Mass!!...
...ohhh!!.. and the never-ending pile of presents, under the tree.... easy to accomplish when your children are young.... 9 and under.. but 9 and above.... it becomes this daunting task... not to mention very expensive..
.. thank you, overpriced retailers..lol..
.. it's all about electronics.. Xbox one $500..... video games 80 dollars....
. tablets iPads..... my God, even something as basic as Lego... has become overpriced..... a simple box of these plastic... building blocks.... $80 and up..... how on earth ,is a parent.. especially a single parent.... supposed to feel good ,about Christmas... and putting presents under the tree.... knowing ... very well it may bankrupt them...lol.... and then, there are the family get togethers... each year you say !we will not buy presents for one another... we all ,have everything we could use... but then !.that one family member... goes out, and get's gifts for everyone... oh great!! thanks a lot..lol.. now back to the shopping mall.... to find a gift for everybody in the family..
..... so you don't seem ,to be this cheap, and insensitive... family member that could not be bothered....even know we agreed !on no gifts...lol....

.. but I truly,i do like Christmas..
. the decorating of the house.. getting the Christmas boxes ,out of storage... the decorating of the Christmas tree..placing the Christmas angel! on the top of the tree....
.. I collected over the years... those Christmas village, ornamental pieces.. you know the ones.!... the houses that light up, have some sort of Christmas scene ,going on in them... they are fired clay are made of porcelain..
. I have enough, for a whole city' scenery..... I enjoy! setting that up with the help, of Thomas... we pretend we are the ... Mayor .. And police chief ,of the city....lol.... I suppose ,that is what Christmas is really about..
. the little traditions... putting up of the lights... setting up the village.... hanging of the stockings.... roasting marshmallows in our fireplace...hmm.... but I still have mixed feelings.. about how long, it takes to wrap presents, put them under the tree.... just to have everything .. unwrapped Christmas morning, in 8 minutes flat...lol..
Merry Christmas....m2.. members..

I always like Christmas decorating, the tree of course, lights and t-lites everywhere, lots and lots of t-lites!
Maybe this year I'll get some lights going outdoors. I like to make a nice wreath, sometimes a few, if I'm in a homely mood.

Christmas this year will be with my son and his girl :) Not sure if they'll come over to me or me going to them. My mom isn't coming over, my girl isn't going to be here.
We always get the raclette grill out for Christmas dinner, all kinds of meat, eggs & greens, a good salad, baguette, wine.
Probably going to be a late dinner again, as my son usually has to work, sometimes till 7 pm :/ (he works in a restaurant).

I have mixed feelings about the consumerism holidays. Depressing. Never liked it. But yeah, the snow and lights are pretty. It was always for the children. I hated to dismantle all the decorations every year too. Too much work. Looking at my box of Christmas stuff in the closet that is 3' x 3', and collected over 28 yrs, I'm thinking, gah, glad I don't have to put up that crap this year.

Maybe it will be different this year. Mistletoe might help.

Love the snow.. the lights.. the family parties.

Hate the commercialism.

Never got the whole black Friday thing ( which now is a week long)..people camping out in a superstore parking lot waiting for the opening " bell", then trampling some poor security kid to a inch of his life as he opens the door.

Me thinks there is just too much 'Baaaa Hum Bug' in this thread.

Enter the spirit of Christmas and spend it with family and friends.

Guess i'll be alone on christmas!:sob:

i am sure there are plenty of men one COULD BE WITH...

so perhaps it is more one has not found one it wishes to be with on Christmas...

or...

one as your self could simply display a sign with a picture on the their front lawn, "alone on Christmas", and a line would form of those who would be happy to make one not alone.

and there still be many days till then to create what one wishes...

a local ad seeking men for holiday cheer would bring many running...

life is too short not to think of ways to create what one wishes...

I prefer the term Yule to Christmas...

Either way... Our tradition...

The kid and I go to a farmer's market and search for the smallest, rather sad looking tree. We deem it the 'Charlie Brown Christmas Tree' and purchase it.. On the way home, we name the tree.. (For everything loved deserves a name..)

Decorations, etc.. Vince Guaraldi Trio, 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' CD on repeat...

A few years we couldnt afford a tree. Chose our jade plant instead and placed it in its honorary spot.

Two days after, Im taking everything down and returning to Zen mode...

Christmas is just another day to me but its a big deal to retailers as they make lots of money. Tis the season to over eat, over drink, and be greedy which seems to be the way most people celebrate it. Very sad actually.
