La bonne ann�e (1973)

A gangster Simon (Lino Ventura) with his accomplice (Charles G�rard), prepare to rob a jewellers store. Next door to the jewellers they find the shop of a beautiful antiques dealer Fran�oise (Fran�oise Fabian) who befriends the group.

Simon and Fran�oise fall in love. He is friendly but unrefined, she is cultivated and independent.

The crime does not work out as planned and Simon is arrested.
After years in prison, released under a New Year amnesty, the criminal tries to pick up his life and start again with Fran�oise.

one of the best comedies ever

For now, I've only seen two french movies, two of them are great.

Belle de jour----artistic, elegant and amusing. Without any music, yet it was really touching.

L'enfant---it's full of meaning, and little ironic.again, without music, it was using the normal sounds as music.

Hi, "gomorrah" is an italian movie and " l'enfant" is a belgique one. A part these details they are very good movies expecially the last one.

It is always hard to reply to these kind of questions.
I will try starting from three of my favourites french directors:
Truffaut
Rohmer
Chabrol

All of them they made excellent movies, from 1970 to almost our age..

Again, in my opinion, it is hard to choose specific movies. The list should be very long.

Blue is the Warmest Color ...

None... I don't like French movies nor French acting, not even when they speak English like in the series Crossing Lines and The Transporter.

The Dutch can't act to save their lives either, barely a handful of exceptions to that rule.
So I think the French and Dutch should steer clear from acting and just buy sweet toffee popcorn and watch American and UK movies

All of them, as most of them are a wankfest!!

Joyeaux Noel is no wankfest (?) lol, and probably the best film I have seen that just happens to be French.

But you will need a fair understanding of the brogue and german to watch it. try to avoid the american english subtitles.
