Too many animals in the world argument is also bogus. There are so many animals because the profit industries BREED them for human consumption. And that's right, there are 7 billion people in the world and growing exponentially. The last billion alone is from the past decade!!! There is enough grain to feed every person on the planet but it's being used to feed the farm animals for breeding. The argument that if every living person on the planet was well fed, we would experience a population explosion which the planet could not handle is correct. There are simply not enough to feed everyone and not have a crisis. We are already consuming the dwindling precious resources of the planet at a rapid pace. The master plan is to wipe out 90% of the world's population by 2025. That means the mass extermination of 6.3 billion people which would leave 700 million chosen few. This has been in effect for some time. There will be some type of weather control, this has already been tested many times with the tsunamis and earthquakes and other natural disasters. We even had a mini earthquake in NYC a couple of years ago, which never happens. Or the higher ups could unleash a disease. The short lived Ebola virus comes to mind which made me think it was a test run. Or another war. Just watch the predictive programming movies, usually science fiction or futuristic, like Star Wars and The Terminator. They are facts disguised as fiction which the higher ups use to send the masses a message of what's to come in the future. Soylent Green (1973), which was mentioned on this thread, is another good example of that.

I'm not sure I could survive without a bacon sammich.

But I agree that animals should be kept as humanely as possible. A billion chickens kept in a small building and never seeing the light of day is wrong, pure and simple.

Celery supposedly screams when it's cut. But plants are on our food chain.

Humans Aren't At The Top Of The Food Chain

As a species, we have much to be proud of: We have tamed the wild beasts, we have built wonders of the world, and we have landed on the moon. Of course, we believe that we are quite deserving of our privileged position. After all, we won the evolutionary arms race, climbing and clawing and intellectualizing our way to the top of the food chain over the course of millions of years.

But that widely held belief is actually wrong. Humans aren't at the top of the food chain. In fact, we're nowhere near the top. Ecologists rank species by their diets using a metric called the trophic level. Plants, which produce their own food, are given a rank of 1. Herbivores, which eat only plants, are ranked 2. The fiercest of meat-loving predators, such as killer whales, rank at 5.5.

So, where do humans rank? A team of French researchers set about calculating the human trophic level (HTL) for every country for which data is available, and their results were published in PNAS. They found that the global HTL average is a measly 2.21, which puts the human diet on par with pigs and anchovies. A trophic level of 2.5 would mean that the human diet was split evenly between plants and herbivores (e.g., cows), so a diet of 2.21 means that we eat far more plants than herbivores. However, as poorer countries such as China and India become wealthier, they choose to eat more meat. As a result, the global HTL has been increasing and will likely continue to do so.

How do countries compare to each other? There are certainly some interesting results in the data. (See figure.)

As expected, Africa and southeast Asia, have relatively low HTLs. The United States and western Europe have relatively high HTLs. But the highest HTLs go to countries like Mongolia, Sweden and Finland, where diets are mostly fish- and meat-based and vegetables are largely an afterthought.

ALF, our loveable, cat-eating friend from the planet Melmac, would feel quite welcome in those societies. In regard to vegetables, he once said, "That's not food. That's the stuff food eats."

Is there really a different between all living beings? don't they all deserve to live in peace? how can we love one kind but eat the other? they all want to live! They all have feelings and emotions.

its not about feelings, its just about survival,, there is a natural food chain, some animals are lower on it than others,,,,,for their own survival they hunt and eat other animals,,, circle of life

Muktuk has fed many a generation.

Animals are food.
Get over it already.

Green peace.
The best thing the French ever did,
was sink the rainbow warrior.

Do you find the mass growing of animals in captivity for profit a part of the food chain?

Hunting your food is one thing.Buying it in a supermarket is another.

dead is dead... would you rather go hunt or go spend?

Not everyone is in an area to hunt. Many places it is illegal in city limits

Sorry but I am a meat eater and make no apology. But I don't believe animals should suffer either

and not everyone wants to hunt... it's not easy, time consuming, and not every hunt is successful... thats why they sell meat at stores, so people that don't want to don't have to kill animals or deal with hunting...

Another good point

another point: if they didn't sell meat at stores, and with the need to feed 7 billion people, just how much wildlife would be left right now?

the animal farms are necessary, regardless of what the soft hearted vegans think...

Humans Aren't At The Top Of The Food Chain

Well isn't that a fact where I live I am part of the food chain... I like one poster that stated it so well and I am going to elaborate a bit.

plant eats dirt
worm eats plant,
bird eats worm
cat eats bird
wolf eats cat
bear eats wolf
man eats bear
man can be eaten by all in someway or another...

Fact of life we ALL have to eat no matter what we are.

I personally have fought long and hard to get to where I am at on the food chain and I will fight to stay there.

top of the food chain doesn't mean we are invulnerable to being eaten, it means we have power in numbers... right now, it doesn't matter how many people are eaten, we will still have control... Ants are at the top of their food chain, for the same exact reason...

Absolutely....
If someone really wanted to understand climbing to the top of a food chain
Watch insects.. they're amazing creatures.. I just don't many of them..
