Topic: Signed Up For DSL | |
---|---|
Back in mid April I signed up for DSL via my dial-up ISP, which would have been $24.95/month with limitations of +30 hours per month. Well, hit quite a few snags along the way and eventually ended up talking to our third party phone billing company. They offered a far better DSL package with unlimited online time for $39.98/month. Then we hit another road block, seems the other company request for canceling the order didn't go through so we had two DSL modems waiting to be shipped. So here it is the middle of June and the first order was finally canceled and the second order was ready to be shipped. But then the third part phone billing company suddenly pulled the plug on that package deal for $39.98/month and is now claiming they only have this new package deal for $129.98/month. Obviously I cannot afford that as HughsNet is nearly that much as well.
Now I don't know what else to do. Guess I'm stuck with dial-up with a connection speed of 28 Kbps. Even though DSL is readily available in my area. Call up my dial-up ISP and see if they will reenlist the original order again and try to get that going - even though it is restricted to +30 hours of use per month. Won't be allowed to upload weather data 24/7. |

Geez. I was hoping HughesNet was something to look forward to, JT. I am signed up with ViaSat because it was part of the bundle with Directv. Still love the Directv but can't wait to get out of the 2 year contract with ViaSat. They say just watch your usage meter. lol What a load; I pay for it by the month I should get a month's worth. First, it was the 10 GB. Then, the 12 GB and now upgraded to the 25 GB at the 129.00 price. Which means for four days you get awesome Internet but then dial-up speed the rest of the month. From midnight to 5 AM the speed is great but then I work third shift.

cable is far better than DSL. They just upgraded residential here from 40 Mbps to 60 Mbps $40 a month. I'd never go back to DSL again, much less dial up. How can satellites get away with charging for data download when cable doesn't? What a racket.

That reminds of something I heard a professor say when I was taking computer class. A lot of people confuse DSL with ADSL.
Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a type of digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide. |

I went through the same crap with ATT in an attempt to get DSL. It never happened. I checked out what few options there were for areas with no cable and I settled for DishNet. It is about $60 bucks but I could have gotten somewhat less speed for about $40.
It works well as long as it is not raining hard then the signal drops off but that hasn't been a big problem. |

They finally got the order straighten out but the company that I was getting the DSL with - they dropped that package deal. They came up with a newer, better package (the only one they have) which will cost me $139.99/month for 3G's. Unfortunately I cannot afford $139.99/month along with the land line phone service for $52.74/month. Combined would be $192.73/month bundled. WAY --- WAY too much.
Either contact my Dial-up ISP and sign me back up on their limited use plan or see if I-2000 will work with me. The last time I called the person hung up. They have DSL, high speed wireless (where DSL isn't available), unrestricted dial-up (which is what I have right now), web hosting, and voip phone service. I signed up for Wild Blue back in November 2013 and haven't heard a word since. You would think these companies would bend over backwards for your business. After all, that's money in their pockets. I guess they look at it as being an inconvenience. Got to send a tech out and get that person hooked up and running. |

Wish I could get Cable for $40... Comcast had me paying $85 a Month with add on fees...I just couldn't afford it anymore...I switched to DSL and with my 32 Gig of ram I am hitting 25mb/sec on a 20 MB Line... Also I joined OpenDNS its incredible they run their own servers and Filter out Hidden IPs from domains and with my dynamic IP it lets OpenDNS know what my new IP is, and the streaming from it is solid with 25mb and OpenDNS i don't see much difference just the Money, pages load faster with OpenDNS
