Mothers Day
Mother's day so the family gathered. The grandmum and the young mums, the guests of honour. My two sons, my daughter and of course the grandson, light of my life the lad is. The lunch was great, the food lovely, the conversation entertaining, and would you believe I got to pay the bill, which pleased everyone. It would seem nothing changes. On departing the Riverside restaurant the lad wanted to run across the new Millenium bridge, and why not it only takes about five minutes and by its design it is fun to cross. No time was the cry, we've got to do this, that and the other. Knickers to this , that and the other, I grabbed his hand and we were off. Over the river in a flash and back at the same speed; the laughter peeling and tinkling out of us, at this little forbidden adventure. Just before we caught up with the rest of the family up he looked up at me and said, "Grandad I knew you would find a way to get me across that bridge." Suddenly that expensive restaurant bill seem totally inconsequential. |
