At one time I did Mr conrad we had a rising middle class we attempted to create a nation based on freedom of speech one free of racial bias and gender bias with some type of economic equality. Its as clear as day and all facts are clear this is not your grandpas Oldsmobile. Again I ask what type of country lies its way into wars and spies on its own people 24/7 with there own tax dollars and then cuts food stamps to those most in need. a great country does not do that. all wars are based on lies... why you so fixated on Iraq? your hate for the cons blinds you... |

and gender bias with some type of economic equality Im not ever going to be considered the most sentimental about patriotism, however, I do believe that the words to that song have never been any more or any less true,,, no time in American history has been completely free for anyone, and people have always been 'attempting' to change it,,, if the songs not true now,, it never was,,,, |

Everything that is wrong with america can be seen at the super bowl its a fantasy. It matters not what team wins the world will be the same the rich will get richer and the poor poorer.
The profitable NFL gets about a billion a year in tax subsidies and has taken a page from the corporate playbook and black mails tax payers for new stadiums and upgrades or they will move the team. And then we have Papa Johns the official pizza of the NFL whose owner came out strong against health care coverage, peddles his rotten pizza and sodas to a society of rubes who gladly poison themselves. I am fairly certain the american society is degenerate beyond all hope. |

by the above standard
which society isn't 'degenerate' |

I agree.
Liberals have fought hard for the degeneration of moral, ethical and family values. Those in DC and the 1%ers are the ones running our nation into the ground. Not, WE The PEOPLE. Take a close look and you might find, it's corporations with Union workers who support and bribe liberal politicians. |

I understand what you're saying but as long as voters keep sending the same summabitches back to DC, our grandfathers America will be gone forever. |

Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance etc. For example, when people smoke (behavior) and they know that smoking causes cancer (cognition). Festinger's (1957) cognitive dissonance theory suggests that we have an inner drive to hold all our attitudes and beliefs in harmony and avoid disharmony (or dissonance). http://www.simplypsychology.org/cognitive-dissonance.html It would appear the 'cognitive dissonance' is the latest misused term projected onto anyone that doesn't agree with the user. I hope this heralds the demise of the much misunderstood and abused term 'in denial' for such cases. |

This is a very interesting debate even if it is supposed to be about the Super Bowl which I know nothing about. It is easy for people to say go and live somewhere else if you don't like it here as some of you have. Debate is your democratic right as long as it doesn’t get personal. I studied the US health care system during my degree and read and still read a lot of Noamh Chomsky. He has a lot to say about your country. I don't know enough about the US to get to involved but what I will say is my country (UK) is getting dragged back into the 1930's by our coalition government led by the Tories. They want to conserve the old order, the rich get richer and if you’re poor it's your fault. Keep up the debate after all you and I live in a democracy???

Not sure why this was moved to the sports category, has nothing to do with the game other than the title. |

I suppose my point was people were saying to the original poster if you don't like it here get out and live somewhere else, some in a sarcastic way. It’s much more complicated than that. If you read Chomsky he can explain it a million more times than me. Tittles such as On Western Terrorism, Necessary Illusions and Manufacturing Consent. Neither of our countries are as democratic as those in charge would have us believe. The media are part of the whole agenda and are governed by "The Masters of The Universe". I you have time, check Chomsky out. The only way we can change things is by action but that would never happen, I just get on with it and moan a lot so I guess I am one of Chomsky’s “Bewildered Herd”!! |

So did anyone else want to puke when they did the national anthem? Suffer from cognitive dissonance when the rolled out the flag and sang. "Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave, for the land of the free and home of the brave" The answer of course is no. Certainly you can move to another nation that is more to your liking. But your Socialist-Idea of America ain't it either! A strong case can be made that your a shrill or some type of sock puppet. There you go and accuse me of being a Shill again! Actually,if you had some Idea of Switzerland, you'd see we are far less "progressive" than you! Why some of you Guys constantly think of Sweden when they hear Switzerland is a real Mystery to me! Actually what gets me is,you live in the greatest Nation of the World, yet I need to see you yet to leave even a shred of good on it! Maybe you do need to relocate to some other Country for a while to appreciate what you got! |
