it means I was born in AMerica,, being 'american'

there are thousands of types of 'americans' none more or less American than the next,,

however,,,

being a decent human means caring about others and reaching out to others and doing our best to do no harm to others

being an ADULT means to be responsible and accountable to ourselves and our loved ones,,,

I must choose to try to be the latter two, I was born the former without any personal effort or personal choice on my part

Saying "thousands of types of 'americans'none more or less American than the next,,", is like saying all painters are Rembrandts.

To be an American is to be a patriot. This is the only country on the planet, where the citizenry not only has a right to question their government, but has a duty to do so.

Unlike every other country on the planet, we don't pledge allegiance to a King or a Queen, or a Royal Family, but to an ideal, the Constitution Of the United States.

To be an American, is to swear an oath to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic. That means if even you find a own father to be a traitor, you turn him over.

It's a tough standard, and not everyone can live up to it.

But then, not everyone can be an American.
Think you should do your homework on your way off the mark views my friend? I'm Scottish 1st and British 2nd. We don't have to swear allegiance to a Queen, or Royal Family. You'd be surprised how many people can't stand them, myself included, or our government either and we can speak out against them over here also. Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Holland, etc, are the same also. We have freedom over here, just like in the States!
Scot First,hmmmmm?

A Scotsman walking through a field, sees a man drinking water from a pool with his hand.
The Scotsman man shouts ' Awa ye feel hoor thats full O coos Sharn'
(Don't drink the water, it's full of cow s ** t.)
The man shouts back 'I'm English, Speak English, I don't understand you'.
The Scotsman man shouts back 'Use both hands, you'll get more in.' laugh
Scotland, England, N. Ireland and Wales, are four countries in their own right, but make up the United Kingdom, also known as Great Britain. I was born in Scotland, so therefore my Nationality is Scottish! I have to put down British when I travel abroad, not through choice though! That might change later this year when we vote for Independence. We already have our own Parliament, in Scotland and hopefully the vote is a resounding yes! Also remember, it was Europeans who laid the foundations of America, in the first place!

Now why would you put down the British when you travel?

What do the Scottish have against then anyways? Ok don't answer that

"And sometimes words have two meanings"

"I British Subject I was born and a British Subject I will die"
Sir John A Macdonald 1st prime Minister of Canada

A British subject I was also Born and a British Subject I will
also die but how come he could be prime Minister and I can't
even voteohwell or even have I gov job. It sounds like there's
Different rules here. but they sure like my tax money.

If the Scots don't want to be part of Great Britain what is UK going to do if they just having their own country? Take their allowance? Is Prince Harry going to fly over and drop leaflets of his neckid body and thrill all the Lassies? Somehow I don't see this as a reason for the USA to send troops. We already spent enough money on Brave Heart.

there are a couple quick reminders for you on that last statement. people already lived here with excellent foundations long before Europeans arrived. Those Europeans who did arrive were trying to rid themselves of British oppression, and others searching for religious freedom. The french and the spaniards really never intended to colonize in the fashion of the English and were mainly her to rob errr I mean trade with the natives and the french as fur trappers mostly.

The europeans in America displaced thousands from their homes, stole their land and killed those who would not cooperate. there is more than one version of history here.

Yes, they came here to rid themselves of British oppression, but just like when people move from one place to another they often bring cockroaches with them.

British oppression came with them, and infiltrated covertly --and the queen (The Crown) now owns a lot of America.

I get sick when I see Americans get so excited about the royal family and all their stupid rituals and marriages. I get sick when Americans feel "honored" if the queen gives them the title of "knight." They should be branded as traitors.

As far as I'm concerned they have infiltrated Hollywood, the media, and our federal government with their central banking criminals.

America has a cancer in the Federal government growing like a weed. Its a criminal organization.

Power to the States.

Power to the people.

F*** Washinton and congress.

If you call excellent foundations being free of European diseases
then yeah I guess they had excellent foundations.laugh you must be talking about the first nations of the Americas. They all existed, and spoke many different tongues different languages and rivaled each other.
They didn't even have horses as the spanish brought then and the Dutch
Brought the dairy cows and even stoped by Africa and offered some good
Ol' boys a lift and a job then the British help out too
apparently the American government didn't think they had foundations
as they had altamatems to continue fighting or go on reservations.

They were all Europeans! They all come from the old 'country' that was
just the times, the brits and the Dutch fighting for controll off the
colonies then the revolt joined with the french and the British are off
to fight for more colonies against the Dutch on tbe home front and
then French Revolutionary times were starting. It was just a big business
more settled colonies the more business more money more labourers the more ships the more power the more money.life didn't mean alot.

curious what signifies 'loyalty' to a country?

is it not seeing any other countries?

not caring about any other countries?

not being attracted to any other countries?

how does a 'loyalty' manifest, in terms of action?

Read your Constitution, and you might get an idea!bigsmile

We've had devolution here since the late 90's, which means that we make most of our own decisions in the Scottish parliament, with only the major ones coming from London. We would've been seperated from the UK years ago, if it wasn't for the Oil and Gas revenues from the North Sea, that Scotland brings into the British economy!
