Chivalry is men treating women like they are weak and inferior, I thought we all wanted to be equals?

The Knight's Code of Chivalry was a moral system that stated all knights should protect others who can not protect themselves, such as widows, children, and elders.

I don't want to be equal to a man,, I want to be AS IMPORTANT As a man while being a WOMAN

I think doing for others is not a sign of thinking they are weak, its a sign of appreciation,, I cook for my grown son, he certainly isn't weak,, but I appreciate him,,, I would go to the store for my father, who wasn't a weak man, but I appreciated him

chivalry , like most things, is a matter of perspective,, but I consider it one way for men to show APPRECIATION of women,,,,

or we can call it being a gentleman, if chivalry is not correct terminology

but its nice to be appreciated,, whatever its called when it manifests in others,,

Respect and appreciation for all. Why is it so hard for so many people?

The Qur'an is very clear and precise on women's value, how they should submit and how the man disciplines the unruly ones.

This I agree with. I have nothing against manners and don't mind a guy holding open a door for me or me holding open the door for him. I just think it should be called manners and not chivalry.

This is a complete miss-understanding of chivalry. Chivalry recognizes that women have certain strengths and men have certain strengths and making one compliment the other by one leveling the playing field when it is unequal due the strengths of one gender.

How is protecting widows, children and elders a bad thing?

So women lack the strength to open their door or pay for their share, put on a coat, scoot in their chair, or plan a date so men need to compliment it? What weaknesses do men have that women compliment, I'm having a hard time thinking of one as I have never needed a women I've only ever preferred there company.

Protecting widows, children and elders isn't a bad thing, it just has nothing to do with a man spoiling a women who is perfectly capable of taking care of herself because he wants her to like him.

Quite right. I am the same way as I have never needed a man to do anything or take care of me. Female police officers also protect widows, children, and elders and has nothing to do with a man spoiling a woman. LOL You are spot on Indignus.

the bible and the quran have gender roles ,

and in both the biblical culture and the culture of the quran, the men were the hunters and providers and culturally of more value in terms of their status as provider

kind of like taxpayers are in our culture,,,

Chivalry is defined as a combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight, esp courage, honour, justice, and a readiness to help the weak, a chivalrous act; a gallant deed, it is a moral code, a code of conduct. Chivalry has noticing to do with the battle of the sexes.

I, for one, have no respect or time for a guy who doesn't display this type of behavior and attitude.
grumble
