Seems like all guys approach me with their witty pet names... Sexy, hunny, babe, baby, sweetie, Hun, and proceed to say things like "ur so fine" "u looks so hot" I'm sorry but I honestly can't think a girl finds that appealing... I'd like some opinions please :)

I guess I got desensitized to this kind of comments working around men, specifically vets, that were so sick of being surrounded by testosterone that a female around about sent them into a frenzy.

Yea they would sometimes be showing off for each other but sometimes it is really just going over the top to not be taken too seriously because making a legit approach they don't have a lot of confidence in making a connect.

My experience is you can handle these comments with humor, wits, and grace and often win a friend or lover that would kill to do almost anything to please you.

And that you will grow to be honored to have them call Hun, Sweetie, Baby, Sugar britches ect. and not thread on your privacy to disclose your private name in these forums or maybe in other places where you would not want their coworker's or strangers to actually know who you are.

I can't blame you for feeling that way. I don't mind if they do, if they're actually my lover, but yes, it feels silly coming from a stranger.

I have out my scissors trying to figure out how much of the southern US needs to be cut off.

I don't know about others but we were brought up to greet people with pet names as a sign of compassion and respect.

Both my wives would be laughing their butts off at you guys right now. Believe me I understand when guys and gals have disrespect on their minds but sometimes you guys kill me when you take things to the extreme and jump all over them.

Pet names are a beautiful artform we were taught in the south. Almost everyone had a nickname, or were called a pet name or were greeted by their proper name like "Miss Gracy" or whatever their name was. Not only is it proper but it shows your not uptight and that's one thing down south or where I live now that folks are big on. There are two types. People who know how to deal with it and others who are just too uptight for their own skin.

Ladies (I can call you ladies can't I) why instead of complaining don't you count it a blessing that this guy is showing his cards up front? Don't go blaming pet names for a guy who is a D*** (now there's a pet name). I would rather a guy or gal would show themselves at the beginning so I could save myself a bunch of time. I thinks it's important to save time don't you? For example (not that any of you would do this), a girl that is always complaining or taking every oppertunity to get down on guys. Now that's a belle I take notice of. I'm pretty sure for the rest of my life my ears would be taking a beating around a gal like that.

Respect is respect but when you take the fun out of being playful (not in a degrading way) it leaves pretty dull leftovers. I'm very happy that my women even friends take the time to give me a pet name.

As someone said early, what's worse than someone calling you a pet name? Someone not calling you at all. In my long industrious life I've seen lots of women who complained (when they were younger) about the very thing they missed when they got older.

Are you sure it's the pet names, or that you think they're disrespecting you? And are most of them disrespecting you or just haven't grown up yet? Speaking as a guy, I think many of them are simply stupid and maybe someday will actually grow up a little. Some won't. But do you want to grow old bitter as a result of their stupidness? What's worse, a stupid guy or a bitter woman?

for the sake of balance

Yeah; I think someone addressing me this way is disrespectful. You meet a stranger, it's Miss, Ms, Madam, Sir, etc. You don't address someone in a familiar way when you don't know them as you don't know what they will find acceptable or offensive. How about an old fashioned "hello" with no stupid pet names attached.

If I were meeting a person in the line of duty, doing a children's conference job, say even in a setting such as practicing my faith I would be offended if their greeting had even a whiff of a familiar or sexual tone to it. I would waste no time in cutting that person off at the knees and probably enjoy beating them with the bloody stubs. lol

Being on a date site suggesting the concept, even the expectation, that relationships here are going to reflect a much more personal tone where my gender is going to be a major element I accept that I am going to have to shift gears too some degree. I don't consider dating because I want plutonic friendships. I am here because I want someone to find me not only an interesting person and trustworthy friend but future lover and partner of a very intimate level. I want them to very much relate to me as a female that they would think of in an affectionate way, as someone to protect, and yes hopefully see as "hot".

On the flip side if I insert Hun, dear, baby in a conversation it is to make it clear to that person they have a degree of attraction, affection, or intimacy in my life.

The exception to that is someone I am being paternal towards. That is sometimes that is genuine and sometimes that is either a subtle reminder or a direct warning I am no cougar and if you disrespect me I am likely to separate you from what makes you a man or at least make it hurt so much you will need a diaper for a time.

Or someone I am being so flagrantly over the top with it that they know it is a joke or just to boost moral. Such as addressing a triple amputee vet old enough to be my Grandfather as Darlin. He knew I wasn't flirting with him but he enjoyed the heck out of being acknowledged. Which I think at least SOME of the emails from dirty old men are. The others I ignore.

I have never being one to use them casually, in
everyday life,except with girlfriends.

I am very aware that a lot of woman don't like it
as well.
I know I want to at times on line,to woman I'm
fond of,but I will generally refrain,do to my
superior filtering system:laughing:

I was snapped at and told off once so they would
have to be the one to start with the so call 'pet
names.
I don't know why I have the urge to want to say
it more on line, I suppose its a way to compensate
as it was mentioned.
In person I can flash the baby blues as I play
offence and they play defence.
Having said all that I have always LOVED it
when the waitress calls me hun.
I used to have woman 10-15 years older calling me
hun and now some are 23 years younger.

Its makes her look confident and comfortable in
her skin to me.
It makes it hard to feel an age gap when they call me hun.

I've been called a few pet names. Like hey you, that crazy guy, creepy, ummmm and various other things. but life is to short to give a crap. I am who I am and I don't pretend to be something else. If anyone likes me then they like me for who I am.

Chances are if I know someone in real life and I use a pet name. Then it's in jest. Like calling someone taller than me a midget or my midget. lol

I'm a weird guy though. but on here if I used a line like you're really hot or sexy or what ever. Chances are I'm talking to someone I expect is a scammer and I'm doing it to see how far I can push them before they leave me alone or block me or something. But I don't find many scammers on here. I need to find a site where I haven't trash talked them so much. lol
