NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- In the midst of major changes in health care, UnitedHealthCare has sent thousands of pink slips to Connecticut doctors.

Termination letters went to physicians caring for Medicare patients. Those letters were sent out to doctors caring for 'Medicare Advantage' patients. It's a plan, marketed to Seniors to provide additional services through UnitedHealthCare.

A mix of primary care and specialty doctors are affected by it. And it comes at a questionable time.

reform cant make people make better business decisions,, from JULY of this year,,,

Three months ago, UnitedHealthcare took over the TriCare contract from TriWest Healthcare Alliance for the 21-state western region.

But after that change took effect April 1, few providers were prepared for what happened next: lack of referrals, slow payments, new billing codes, new requirements and reduced services. In Colorado Springs, Alpine Autism Center says UHC already owes the clinic $120,000 in back payments, and Autism Behavior Associates Inc., another autism care provider, nearly had to close for a month, it said, because payments were late.

“This is going to cause lawsuits,” said Tanja Brown, clinical director of ABA. “They’re changing things with no notice and no reason. Children are going to lose the services that they need.”

Before United took over managing the TriCare services, TriWest had held the contract for more than 16 years. Immediately, there were problems — and those problems have led to low cash flow and fewer patients for TriCare providers in the Colorado Springs area.

SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE HAS FOUND A VERY TIMELY 'scapegoat' to pin their poor planning on,,,,

case of the blind refusing to see,, not opinions , but actual FACTS

united took on more than it could handle BEFORE obamacare was even implemented, it took over too big of a project with the Tricare Network and found it couldn't sustain it,,

its feeling the consequences of a bad business decision and compensating with cutbacks,,,

but people can continue to salivate at the idea this is 'obamacares' fault,,,frustrated frustrated

This has absolutely nothing to do with the affordable care act. It has been a problem since inception and manifests from the lowest bid given the contract and the fact that the company's profits derive from what they do not spend on care.

There was a time when a doctor who accepted Medicaid was also required to accept tricare. Tricare does not fire doctors. Instead doctors quit the system however united healthcare has created jobs.

Surprise, surprise the person with confederate flag wants to blame the black president.

It is always better to keep your mouth closed and appear ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Congress needs to fix tricare but in a community where we have an over abundance of military personnel we have a lack of family practice doctors who accept the plan we also have a boom in orthopedists and physical therapists...a product of war.

Does this mean that some of the greedy Canadian doctors, who went south for better pay will be trying to sneak back up into Canada?...Hope not...We only want doctors up here, not millionire businessmen with "M.D." after their names.

The high doctor salaries was the one thing I liked about the medical "brain drain"...It got rid of the greedy ones.
