Who cares? So instead of getting a life sentence he will get 25 to 50 years and a Dishonorable Discharge which is worse then a Felony on a job application.

Just because he was mistreated doesn't make him not guilty. They are taking time off his sentence for those incidents.

I can't see where you get that he was tortured. According to reports, he was questioned, and his psychological state was such that he was placed on suicide watch, so they had to remove his clothes and anything else from his cell that he might use to hurt himself, but he was still fed and given space to move. Beyond that, the guy was still guilty of releasing several hundred thousand classified documents, causing untold damage. The guy should get life without parole.

Sorry, but that's not how it works. This is not simply a non-disclosure contract. We don't sign contracts in the military beyond the enlistment contract. The disclosure of government secrets is a felony. It's not a matter of breaking a contract, and the things we do sign are memoranda acknowledging the briefings we get about what we're about to get access to and the punishment for divulging the same.

Manning got all those briefings. He got all the training that goes along with being an Army analyst. Releasing even one classified document is often punishable by up to 20 years, and Manning released over 700,000 of them. You might call him a hero for exposing some such event, but there are still over 700,000 incidents that he released, exposing, for example, foreign sources who's lives are subsequently at risk. Methods of intelligence collection that let our guys find stuff out, are now known to the enemy, so they can cover and resist that collection in the future.

Screw your love for Manning. The bastard's a traitor and should get death. Even if he exposed some government malfeasance, he still has to pay the penalty for the other crimes he committed.

He wouldn't be the first patriotic hero imprisoned for life or executed.
