I didn't know this had ever happened. But guess what? It did. I wonder how long it was considered a "conspiracy theory" before the actual truth came out.

Victims of forced sterilization to receive $10 million from North Carolina

In a landmark move by the state of North Carolina Wednesday, lawmakers passed a budget that includes $10 million to compensate the state’s victims of forced sterilization.

“There were challenges, we had to better educate our members -- and then of course we had to work through the fiscal challenges -- but at the end of the day, what we’ve done is something truly historic,” state House Speaker Thom Tillis, a Republican, told NBC News.

From 1929 to 1974 North Carolina forcibly sterilized thousands of men, women and children, usually without their consent. It was part of a larger eugenics movement that believed poverty, promiscuity, and alcoholism were inherited traits, and that without them the gene pool could be improved.

Elaine Riddick was raped and impregnated at 13 years old and, after giving birth to her baby boy Tony, she was sterilized against her will. Afterward, she lived for years in shame, but had something to prove.

“People need to know that injustice was done towards them and they need to be compensated for that,” said Riddick, who was profiled by “NBC News Rock Center with Brian Williams” in November of 2011.

wow, these laws were on the books, like jim crow and slavery

hard to refute,, then or now,, but finally enough people find it unjust for action to be taken...

its the 'forced' that's terrible,, the voluntary is still up and running

"The third group [of society] are those irresponsible and reckless ones having little regard for the consequences of their acts, or whose religious scruples prevent their exercising control over their numbers. Many of this group are diseased, feeble-minded, and are of the pauper element dependent upon the normal and fit members of society for their support. There is no doubt in the minds of all thinking people that the procreation of this group should be stopped."
Margaret Sanger. Speech quoted in Birth Control: What It Is, How It Works, What It Will Do. The Proceedings of the First American Birth Control Conference. Held at the Hotel Plaza, New York City, November 11-12, 1921. Published by the Birth Control Review, Gothic Press, pages 172 and 174.

Ms Jean.
Did your report specify only only race?

Or, was it meted out to any and all?

Just as a note of trivia, Canada had forced sterilization of people considered "incompetent" until the 1970's ! (In fact, I think we invented the eugenics concept so eagerly adopted by the US & Germany and the forced sterilization that went with it.)

I remember the story of one Polish woman, who was forcibly sterilized and confined to a mental institution for years...All because she couldn't speak proper English!

I don't agree with all Mrs Sangers ideas.

She did offer a lot of wisdom.

The word eugenics comes from Francis Galton. Inquiries into Human Faculty and Its Development was his book that laid the foundation for the eugenics movement.

the eugenicists believed that if you were poor you deserved to be sterilized or killed..

their theories and practices had no racial preferences..

they were socialists and progressives..

they believed in spreading the sterilizing and genociding to encompass everyone they didn't deem worthy..

laugh laugh
She was a forward thinker.
Since her time we have become grossly over populated.
Perhaps Husseincare will cover voluntary or paid incentive to get fixed.

So progressive,it turns Regressive,or even off the Cliff!

matters little what political side they are on!

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. - William Pitt

I be dammed!
Hussein is right in line with Mrs Sangers plan.

Sterilization is covered and, kids 15 can get sterilized without parental consent.

All the Hussein promoters need to show their allegiance to they boy and get spayed and neutered.
I bet he'd even throw in a free night at Chucky Cheese for the kiddies.

I attempted to get sterilized at age 25 because I did not want any children and no doctor would perform it. They all said that I would "change my mind." They were so patronizing and stupid.

I didn't change my mind.

Let someone else populate the world I did not want to spend my life raising children. Besides, I was poor... and couldn't afford it.

(If I would have been Black, maybe they would have.)

BS on Hussein being the best for our country.

There was decades more experience, not to mention a real caring for the needs and well being of our citizens.

Hussein was a novelty to get dimwits to vote dimwitcrap.

A token.
