Hey Rapunzel!
I just reread the thread. I overlooked the details about the store near the park the first time I read through it. Keep me posted on it, 'k? I might have plans for the holiday, but if not, GG Park is definitely on the to do list that weekend! |

Bay Area Gal;
When you get off BART - just take the 7 Haight - it runs every ten minutes. Have a coffee at the Chattanooga - and tell everyone I said hi. |
|
|
|
#7 takes you to Tennessee???
I'll have to look up the Chattanooga. I excursions to the city! This is sounding like so much fun! |
|
|
|
LOL... The Chattanooga is a Cafe on Haight street. At least it used to be. It was there for years. It's between Ashbury and Clayton street.

Oh, hi Bay Area Gal and ElJay...
Ahhhh, thanks for the messages and feedback.. I am hoping to get a lot of my west coast friends to caravan along.. One of the guys on this site has offered to drive up to Sacramento from San Jose and take me on his Harley to San Francisco on Saturday September 1st... Originally,I had said that the concert was on the 3rd, but The Eagle KSEG 96.9 FM our local radio station says it is on the second... They are taking 50 lucky people on their Magic Bus to the festival... |

I lived in the Haight in the early 80's. I owned a theater company called the Haight Ashbury Repertory Theater. We performed at the Red Victorian movie house, and did white face mime on the streets during the Haight Street fair. Most of the people who were in the company are still there. I've been back east (I grew up here) for a while now.

Hi Eljay...
Sorry it's been a while to get back with you... I've been out of town.... I grew up back east in Connecticut and have spent my adult years out west....Thanks for sharing about your theater back in the 80's in the Haight district of The City... It sounds like you miss it...Well, I happen to know that New England is so beautiful too, in fact I have family who have land on the Massachusetts border and even though it is growiung there and the city is threatening to creep into the country, it is till a lot less built up there & I hope 'progress' as they call it, never completely takes over the rugged and fragile beauty of the wilderness.... I have been out of town with no internet access for the past few days....I was told that someone heard of the anniversary festival being postponed...I will have to check that out online to see if it is true....I will keep you all posted...If anyone else hears anything about it, please let me know....Thanks... |

So Rapunzel and Bay Area Gal - did the festival happen? I was actually in Los Angeles since the 1st. HOT HOT HOT! Yes Rapunzel, I often miss San Francisco. I had always hoped I could create a life where I could live for 6 months there, and 6 months in Boston. But - alas, it was not to be. Most of the friends I had there have moved away, or returned home, or simply passed away. So there isn't as much motivation to go back, just to visit the old hang outs. Most of them don't even exist any more. There was a fabulous cafe on Haight street called the "Grand Piano" that was a central hang-out for everyone when I lived there. The year after I left - Lexi sold the place and they turned it into a fast food pizza place. Or so I heard. I'm almost afraid to go back to see what my "city by the Bay" has become.

Rapunzel did not make it, but she can tell you about that herself. I didn't make it either. I was busy doing other things that weekend! BBQ, hiking, and lots of time with friends! I did hear from my co-worker that the GG park was packed with people and cars for the concert, so I think it probably a good thing I didn't go. Thanks for asking, Eljay! I do intend to visit that place in the Haight that you talked about sometime. If you ever make it out here again, coffee is on me! |

Good Morning my faithful buddies ElJay and Bay Area Gal..
I am sorry to say that I did not get to go..... I am so disappointed... My daughter said there were 50,000 people there... I cannot express how bummed I am that I missed all the festivities and bands like Moby Grape and Country Joe and the fish... I was home blazing but that was no consolation... My first boyfriend took me on my 16th birthday to Fillmore East on September 27th 1969. Stevie "guitar" Miller and his band played with them. As fate would have it, I think you may know I fell hard off my 21 speed mountain bike just before the concert and nothing went as origianally planned...So, I didn't have anything good to say about that day, but since I saw you guys respond I knew I had to say something.... Better luck to us all next time is more like it... Eljay I am glad you have good memories of your City by the Bay...There is still good there. I remember going to The City to a place called the Boarding House I think it was on Bush Street...My children's Dad, my husband cback then, who has since passed away, and I went to a dinner concert with four of the five Byrds...and David Crosby happened to walk up on stage and played with the guys.... It was great... Do you happen to remember David Crosby';s album ElJay... called "If only I could remember my name? ' Or, "if I could only remember my name.." That album is sooo good...If you never geard it try to find it...It has so many surprise artists on there, too... It's a blast..... Listen to "What are their names" and "Tamalpais High"....excellent tunes... Bay area Gal and ElJay.... Thanks for your feedback and love... Hopefully we can get together someday in the city of love by the Bay at Cafe Gratitude One ...my favorite place... Love, Vanessa |
