I Never gave in to adjoining character to talent

to me,, if my heart surgeon is a complete AHOLE matters not to me so long as he is an excellent surgeon

same thing with entertainers, I dont care alot about their personal character when I am aknowleding their TALENT

,,,but Im on a tangent

I think unfollowing is the most mature thing to do, (the whole idea of 'following' strangers seems weird to me anyhow,, r u a republican?....lol,, jk)

after watching the video,, it proves people seem to search for the smallest things to justify trashing others for,,,lol

(the video I saw was him shooting a MUSIC VIDEO in which the flag fell directly behind where his mark was and he proceeded in the process to step on it as he was pacing around ,,,,,,,not trample, or burn,,,,lol,,,,)

yeah, THATS whats even more wrong with America than Lil Wayne,,,,

the flag isn't supposed to even touch the ground.so not only did they disrespect it that way but also in the video you can see Lil Wayne looking down as he's stepping,so he knew exactly that he was stepping on the flag
'

dude, its a music video, the flag represented something happening in the video

not everyone has to idolize cloth because it is a 'flag',, that doesn't mean they are 'disrespecting' it,,,,

Don't get me wrong woman.

Cloth ain't a flag. Blood and peoples are this country's flag.

If you really believe that this country is nothing more than that flag....

This country is you me and US.

um,, I think that's what I Said

the flag being spoken of in this thread is a cloth in red white and blue,,

what it represents, the people, is more the point than the cloth could ever be

and in this video ,the particular cloth was representative of something else altogether,, from a person who actually helps REAL LIFE FLESH AND BLOOD americans

I think to crucify him because of a red white and blue cloth as anti American,, is quite ridiculous

but that is because I think of American as more to do with PEOPLE, than Symboles of the people,,,

If you are cool with someone representing someone who is stomping all over a symbol of this country that lots of people and their family members have served to protect the rights of some overpaid douche who has never done a thing for this country...

Welcome to America....You have the right to be his groupie.

I don't gotta like it. This is America....I have the right to be offended.

I will say this...If that kid did that in front of me...after I beat him till he peed on himself....I would shove the flag down his ungrateful throat.

that's unfortunate

ID say those who enlisted to risk their life for a 'flag' are misguided

and I have very close family members who were enlisted and would say the same, who in fact, continue to do REAL LIFE things for REAL LIFE Americans,,which proves their love of America to me

if others need a reverence of the flag as proof,, that's their prerogative too,,,

and

in fact, Im not a lil wayne fan at all

I just find it interesting that so many americans espouse patriotism while being willing to harm other americans knowing little more about them than how they treated a flag

I will repeat, its more important to me what someone does with AMERICANS than what they do with an American flag

that flag can represent many different things, just as the confederate flag does

I don't agree that it has to hold the exact same worship status amongst all americans in order for them to love America,,,,or, more importantly, love americans,,,

Why would you give Lil Wayne a pass?

its not a 'pass' , I feel that way about it regardless of it being lil wayne

bottom line is if its purchased from a store, its a product that is for whatever use the purchaser decides it to be

and in MUSIC and ART, symbolism goes much further than what the mainstream/pc says it has to be

america is great, but it ant all great, it has crappy parts too

if the flag represents America, artistically speaking, I dont begrudge using it to represent the crap sometimes as well,,

this video was about some of the crap in America,, thus the symbolism was within a very relevant context,,,,

Two words: First Amendment.

Yeah... freedom of speech and expression means that even expressions we personally might dislike or disagree with are protected.

Also: Agreed that a flag is a symbol. My father served in not one, but TWO branches of the military (first Army, then Navy), before, during and after the Korean War. He was always the first one to say that he did not serve to protect a flag, but to honor the people of the US... and he also always said that the moment the citizens of a nation started making a bigger deal out of symbols than of their fellow human beings, that nation was in all likelihood in BIG trouble. "Nazi Germany," he said, "was a prime example of that. Never forget what history teaches."

My father had flaws, but he was wise beyond measure on things like this. Anyone who wants to argue his positions personally will have to take it up with him in the Great Beyond, but as for me, I think I will honor his memory by heeding his words.

Nobody here (that I know of) is denying that Lil Wayne has freedom of speech.

However, you can acknowledge his freedom of speech and at the same time criticize him for doing what he did to the American flag.

Funny how it is the country that thumps its chest to that freedom that is also demeaning those who participate in said freedom.

Irony isn't fitting, contradiction is better.
