Something I love about traveling is all the different types of people. I don't know if it's me or I happen to step in the happening, but it seems like every trip or step I take when I go somewhere or even outside my door I run into creative types and the "norm" in this interaction, "social wrestling match". The creative types are being themselves and the "norm" are trying to figure them out, often making judging comments.

Do you feel more comfortable in what seems more normal to you or do you like to experience people or situations that are considered outside the "norm"? I know people are ready to hit their keyboards and say what is "norm", but think about it a minute. Are you in your comfort zone looking out or in?

Now that I put the main post up, let me tell you what triggered this.

On my flight home last night I had the usual heading to Las Vegas mix of people on the plane. Some were entertainers, some students, people coming home and of course party animals. Amoung them was someone who I found very interesting. She was a beautiful young butch looking woman. Her friend was "vegas hot" as folks here would say. It didn't take long to start hearing the comments and seeing the looks from the "norm". I know the norm well cause of what I've done all my life.

Anyway it just so happened that this couple ended up sitting in the seats in front of me and I was sitting next to the old school embodied as well as the surrounding seats. The folks that were around us were making her world noticibly difficult, but during this she gave me a look with rolled eyes, a smile and wink. That was it, I was inlove and for the rest of the flight we befriended. Quite frankly she melted me with dripping sweetness and the most delightful attitude, a smile from the God's of smiling and an innocence that was irresistable. Turns out this young lady was a virgin exploring life from the angle handed her and her own personal vibe as it was being formed. The people around us saw one part and got out their brands and labels, but I think they missed their chance to meet a treasure.

I am not sure if this applies but when I travel it is seldom people related so I am usually the creative one they are curious about

as long as they stay quiet and keep any conversation brief, they are welcome to wonder

but I feel no obligation to explain.

I do feel "obligated" to be friendly and polite...I think people are curious about others who are not like them and that can spark learning and additional curiousity.

I will have the occasional conversation also

I am pretty much comfortable with anybody, anywhere.
I used to say that I would treat a janitor the same
way I would treat the President.

The more different someone is, the more they attract me.
We are mostly clones so celebrating the ennervatingly
'abnormal' can be very stimulating.

People forget it takes all kinds to make this melting
pot we call America function at its highest potential.

Hurray for oddballs :-)

MmmMm "Norm"! I'm always outside my comfort zone ...even when I don't wanna ... I'm Just there...because of what I like, how I dress, whatever doesn't matter! I get stared at all the time ...yah get use to it! So I guess being outside the comfort zone is My ZONE! I own it LOL! *giggle* seriously the norm is not my place anywhere else would feel awkward, unnatural!
