mg, what do you consider the "norm" to be?

I wonder if mg is going to explain. He hates when I ask him questions. laugh

now that's just not normalhappy laugh

It is a little weird. laugh

Weird is another good one. What makes someone outside of your norm weird?

In this particular example, you've had issues in the past because you didn't want to answer/didn't like questions. Most people here in the forums do not have that issue. So, to me, that's a bit weird.

So to your norm, that would be weird?

odd

From the way you've reacted to questions int he past, yes, I feel that's weird.

Actually I should answer this seriously and not with something that is more fuel. I don't think people mind the questions (I know I dont)as much as the circle of questions cause for some of us we feel like the responses we give say what we mean. In other words a frog can only be dissected so many times before the point is lost.

Obviously there are norms, obviously people are saying it would be nice if there could be less and we as people could be more accepting. The definitions of webster or bing or me or you is not the topic. Norm was simply the word of choice but it could have been several different words. My point is a very simple concept and doesn't really need to go off in a million directions, but it can if people wish. I would suggest this to you. If you do see people not wanting to respond to you it may be for reasons of they just want to make a simple point without having it chopped into a million pieces. They/we don't mind that it may get chewed up and spit out we just don't like to be told we are not willing to keep the circle going when we feel the point has already been made. That to us seems argumentative and really has nothing to do with the points of the topic.

I do realize that some are here mainly to dissect and or argue points, but to many here we are not so much into fueling a flame over making a point.

It's just the way you react. I'm not saying people have to react the same way, but with you, it's almost as if you feel you're better than others and feel that your opinion means more. And if they disagree, you either complain about being asked questions, or you get rude.

So, the whole "norm" thing is going to be different for everyone. We don't all think the way you do. You tend to make assumptions about people based on your "norm" and go after them for it. The whole age preference/stick in the mud thread was a good example of the way you react.

It sadden's me that someone would think that I feel like I'm better than they are. If this is true I would leave so to not be a bad influence. I'm very sorry you feel like I have acted that way toward you. I value your opinions and think you and the rest contribute much to mingle.

I would be very open to someone PMing me about this issue, but I must say that in private I get the opposite types of mail. I think all have differences and that's pretty much what this thread is about.

All I know about you is the way you've acted in the public forum. Some people tend to act differently in public and private. Maybe you just let others influence the way you act a bit more than some. I'm not sure. But, I tend not to try to get to know someone privately who has been rude to me publicly.

Good to see that you realize everyone is different. Maybe you will think about that when you respond to others opinions in the future.

well I was making a bit of play on the topic at hand. One person's normal can be another persons whacked.

I think any sest of parameters can have a norm as in a measured statistical norm. How far one extrapolates that into non measured circumstances such as generalized opinions about lifestyle and behavior??? There is a median income, and average debt. Even personality is measured sometimes to see if we are within the norm to be able to communicate, relate well enough to take care of ourselves and others in society.

There's even a normal way to dress if you want to fit into a certain social group. and then that changes from group to group. I bet if you ran the numbers (as I see all norms as a function of statistics rather than "belief" or assumtion), you might find for example that 65% of men in corporations wear a tie to work. for example.

That's why I asked him whose standards he was going by. Some people here in the forums are very different than others, so the "norm" isn't going to be the same for each of them.

exactly

I agree

the question is the norm of what?

the parameters are needed to describe the group measured so that normative data can be calculated. Only then have we adequate descriptions of the "norm" :)

laugh rofl laugh

"the norm" What a treat!

So you never know about people and the way they are. Prejudging is what many do if some one is a bit different from them.

So my story for the day is.

My summer place is in this area that is not gated which means in Vegas your going to get all kinds. Since early this morning there's been a caddy out in front of my place having a stereo put in. These guys look like something out of gang wars. I'm inside listening to classical today and I'm thinking that will soon be replaced with body pounding rap as soon as the system fires up. Well 20 minutes ago it does indeed fire up. Stevie the man Wonder. I was so pumped I ran outside and gave the guys thumbs up. They looked at me with heads shaking "it's all cool".
