Topic: Our Baser Nature...good or evil?

We can currently "Do better" but it requires a lab setting and constant monitoring, it isn't a realistic means of getting true data. We can read responses from the brain to visual stimuli and interpret it to figure out if there is some sort of neural anomaly present...But it just isn't realistic to attach everyone to a machine and monitor them.

I think that the day we understand how the brain works we quit trying, after-all there wouldn't be much to try for from that point and you would pretty much have everything figured out...I feel that would be greatly detrimental to a society that has continually shown it is directed towards conquering rather than assisting.

In the right hands that kind of knowledge would be prolific...But it would just be a matter of time before someone with opposing ideas would get their hands on it, and that would pretty much be the beginning of the end.

As infinite beings we are all vibrations -hence good and evil and everything in between. We choose the frequency we show up and play in. The only real difference between one frequency and another is our judgment of it..the label we assign to it.

I personally think the more fun energies are love, kindness and caring so that is where I play. But if I had children and one was being harmed, you better believe I'd embody a world of whoop ***!

Do you believe we are basically good and some of us fall to poor behaviors, or that we are inherently bad and some conquer their baser nature to rise to goodness?

What are your thoughts?

I believe that human are inherently evil for the most part. Sort of selfish in a lazy way. Not everyone. It's a subtle sort of evil that most people don't notice. I have noticed that sadism has become more acceptable over the past few years. I fear a savage future for mankind is on the horizon. Many people seem to have insane personal beliefs and want to harm others but are restricted by the penalty of the law. But again, not everyone that way. Just the majority.

Thinking is man’s only basic virtue, from which all the others proceed. And his basic vice, the source of all his evils, is that nameless act which all of you practice, but struggle never to admit: the act of blanking out, the willful suspension of one’s consciousness, the refusal to think—not blindness, but the refusal to see; not ignorance, but the refusal to know. It is the act of unfocusing your mind and inducing an inner fog to escape the responsibility of judgment—on the unstated premise that a thing will not exist if only you refuse to identify it, that A will not be A so long as you do not pronounce the verdict “It is.”

Yes, if I had children and someone messed with them, my next RATIONAL thought would be...what to do with the body! pitchfork

I don't know. Thinking about it I feel like the foundations of goodness are being eroded, paving way for the baser of emotions -- give it to me now type of evil. Where the only rule seems to be if it feels good, it is right.

Depends where you stand...

I just know how I was raised.

Give respect easily. Give distrust easily.

Protect those who need it. Beat the living crap out of those who got it comming.

But...above all... be a good man today.....be a better man tommorrow.

Amen.

I believe the "figment" she's referring to is John Galt, who is a character of Ayn Rand's book "Atlas Shrugged". John Galt...in the book...is actually saying quite the opposite. He is saying that ignoring a problem does not make it go away. When that problem affects the whole of society, ignoring the problem is no better than BEING the problem.

I was just laughing at Leigh's witty little shrug...a play on the book title. I'm just that easily amused at times. slaphead

Ayn Rand lived out the last years of her life on welfare, trying to hide her true identity so people would not know she was a disgrace and a hypocrite.

It's interesting to see how different people are, when they respond to physical pain. Some will just cry and not make a big fuss about it, other's may have a higher pain threshold, which makes pain quite unbearable, so those types will think they are truly dying. I think human's are the most evil species on earth. We have done a lot of damage to this world. However, we could really fix it all if we wanted, but what would we need to do that? Unfortunately, the government have a say in it all, and their lack of care really show's.

I'm not quite sure how it all started but I don't think my K through 2nd grade teachers were too thrilled that I was breathing.

But, I do remember the day I had to go really bad and it took forever to get down the hall to the bathroom. I was so excited to finally be in front of my stall I broke the zipper tab off my pants and pee-d myself.

Omg, you poor thing. Oh well, at least you were relieved in the end :O. It happens.

Ayn Rand recieved government assistance under an assumed name.

actually she never hid her Identity!

I don't have to refute her. She refuted herself.

Noted speed freak, serial-killer fangirl, and Tea Party hero Ayn Rand was also a kleptoparasite, sneakily gobbling up taxpayer funds under an assumed name [note: it might have been her legal name] to pay for her medical treatments after she got lung cancer.

An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Rand's law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand's behalf she secured Rand's Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O'Connor (husband Frank O'Connor).
As Pryor said, "Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out" without the aid of these two government programs. Ayn took the bail out even though Ayn "despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently... She didn't feel that an individual should take help."

But alas she did and said it was wrong for everyone else to do so.
