I can see where some might need a post from a US citizen with a link to a US website explained more clearly.

My apologies

We are, in reality, a democratic republic.

When this country was started communications system weren't even close to what they are today so the founding fathers designed a system in which they thought all citizens would have their say in how the country is governed.

Again, this website is an international website with an audience scattered throughout six continents.

So, if you do not specify what nation that you are referring to, then your statements will come across as being ethnocentric.

Others don't necessarily know what your nationality is without you referring to it in your posts.

Are we a democracy or a Republic?

The US is both, a republic with elected representatives.

The word 'Republic' doesn't define a political system (Res Publicae, 'matters' or 'affairs' of the people, Latin). China is a 'Peoples' Republic and Rome was once a Republic, but it was ruled by an oligarchy.

In reality the whole world is (lawfully) a free republic and a single "nation" (humanity) governed by the rule of law (natural law)...At least it would be if everyone behaved lawfully.

(of course until you guys grow feathers, us ducks will always be a separate nation.)

Constitutional theory defines a timocracy as either
a state where only property owners may participate in government, or
a government in which love of honor is the ruling principle.[1]
The more extreme forms of timocracy, where power derives from wealth rather than honor, may shift in their form and become a plutocracy where the wealthy and powerful use their power to entrench their wealth.
One could apply this system to quite a few countries I would imagine. We could invent a new system and call it "GEORGETOCRACY"

we have a constitutional based democratic republic

a true democracy would place the wants of the majority above
the rights of the minority

thus enters the bill of rights protecting the minority

it usually works but many times takes to long to do so

one of the best examples in today's U.S. is gay marriage

i may not like it but i will support it, why be cause the
constitution protects the rights of the minority. i have
yet to hear a nonreligious argument for preventing it from
being permitted.

someone once told of anal penetration being a health risk
but when i asked does that mean hetro. couples should be
punished for that act the answer was no. what is the difference

so till a good convincing argument can be made without the use
of religion i will be and i should be on the ok side and will be
what about you
