just because others want to venture beyond the fence into the wolves den,,,,doesnt mean I dont feel just as free with my needs and wants right where Im at fence or not,,,, 6 million Jews were happy too until the hammer fell and it was too late. Many million Chinese and others too. Hard to run or change your mind when the noose tightens, it's too late then! What kind of signs do you need? How bad does it have to get? How many liberties, lives and opportunities have to be lost? Who would believe even 20 years ago that America would come to this?

what 'signs' do you see that it IS so bad?
maybe its just where you live, or maybe its just your perception, or maybe its just an attachment to an inhuman idealistic fantasy? what 'this' has america come to in 20 years? We are more gluttonous than ever, we have an overabundance of food , yet still have people starving (that hasnt changed), We are more paranoid than ever, we have a decrease in violent crime, but more people convinced they need a gun for the 'bad guys' we are free to be bigots, we have some of the best medical care , we get free access to public education, we all are able to have a vote, we have an overabundance of access to just about any product you can think of, we have internet, we have cable, we have an overabundance of vehicles, we have multiple airports, women are free to behave like trollips or saings, men are free to be gentleman or dogs, and we are free to LEAVE if we feel so trapped in all of the abundance we already have ,,whatever is so 'bad' to you,, just seems like life to me,,,,and Id go so far as to say perhaps too much freedom,, that has lead to quite a few spoiled entitled brats,,, |

what 'signs' do you see that it IS so bad? maybe its just where you live, or maybe its just your perception, or maybe its just an attachment to an inhuman idealistic fantasy? what 'this' has america come to in 20 years? We are more gluttonous than ever, we have an overabundance of food , yet still have people starving (that hasnt changed), We are more paranoid than ever, we have a decrease in violent crime, but more people convinced they need a gun for the 'bad guys' we are free to be bigots, we have some of the best medical care , we get free access to public education, we all are able to have a vote, we have an overabundance of access to just about any product you can think of, we have internet, we have cable, we have an overabundance of vehicles, we have multiple airports, women are free to behave like trollips or saings, men are free to be gentleman or dogs, and we are free to LEAVE if we feel so trapped in all of the abundance we already have ,,whatever is so 'bad' to you,, just seems like life to me,,,,and Id go so far as to say perhaps too much freedom,, that has lead to quite a few spoiled entitled brats,,, Sure....we are free to do what/as we are told, within the limits of what we are allowed. SORRY! That's NOT freedom! |

This could be quite a good topic if it were not for the bickering in the post.
I do agree with the posts about family values, 2 incomes competing for the head of the household and children's affection. The decline of the USA is upon us. At least the country we once had. It now takes 2 people working to obtain what our parents had all the while allowing others to raise our children and teaching them their values not ours. If you punish your children you are a monster in the eyes of most communities. So yes the decline of western civilization can be attributed the decline of the family unit.World war 2 was the start of the decline. |

Is western society actually in 'decline', or is it merely changing? Is this perception driven by a nostalgia that too, may be idealised? Look at the social impact of the Industrial Revolution, and the subsequent reactionary groups that looked back to an agrarian society with nostalgia. Is any of this new? |

I believe it to be in decline. I do appreciate your analogy with the industrial revolution, however, the US has declined in most social and economic metrics, save perhaps the military. We run, along with most of Europe, deficits that we can not continue to run. We continue to give away our wealth to China, who by the way has stopped trading in US dollars with other countries. The wealth in our country has stagnated for the middle and lower tiers of our citizens. If I recall correctly, 70 percent of our economy is driven services. We make nothing can sustain the debt we have.
Perhaps we have not hit bottom, but we are in decline and moving and moving faster towards that end every day. |

Well, you're free enough to whinge about your lack of freedom. Prisoners and caged animals can also "whine" as you put it. Doesn't mean they have any more or less freedoms. Eroding freedoms are always a sign of the manipulation of power by one over another or many. Battered wife syndrome for domestic example. Our forefathers knew this and gave us, the individual and the body public, a constitution and bill of rights. All of our leaders are sworn in under those articles and laws by an oath of defense to them. Anyone who thinks them unimportant to fight for or maintain is either unpatriotic or not an American. |

Well, you're free enough to whinge about your lack of freedom. taxes...remember the whole purpose people fought the revolutionary war to begin with... This system is reverting back to square one. Essentially, those who feel things are fine as is, may as well, also say the Emancipation Proclimation should be nullified. after all reversion is reversion. the point is not "how good we have it" compared to other countries. The POINT is, those who fought the Revolutionary war and Civil war, fought for the real freedom. The point is, the Constitutional Rights, are not deniable. We are ENTITLED, as citizens of this place, to have the constitution fulfilled. This current system is full of greed. those of you who are content...with giving money to a system that hardly gives back...are the problem with the whole nation. We are paying to be screwed. |
