What is the film you saw that was.....just raw?
I just watched a few obscure movies that were REALLY awesome. SNATCH....with Brad Pitt and Jason Statham. and Harry Brown.....with Michael Caine ...not as violent as...A ClockWork Orange.... But really good films.. That leave you feeling ......Happy...yet...sad. |

I suppose I gotta throw in....Fight Club.....hard to watch, but unforgettable.

A few...
Combat Shock aka American Nightmare (1984), extremely downbeat film about a Vietnam Vet with no job, a nagging wife, a deformed baby, desperate for money to feed his baby and to get his next fix, and slowly going insane. Absolutely no happy moments in the film. Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer (1986), based on real life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. Michael Rooker (years before he became known as Merle on The Walking Dead), gives a seriously disturbing portrayal. Vermillion Eyes (1991), a disturbed man obsessed with death, films fatal car accidents, slowly loses his mind and his perception of fantasy and reality becomes confused, eventually going on a killing spree. My Friends Need Killing (1976), A Vietnam vet goes over the edge from guilt and proceeds to torture and murder his fellow company members who participated in a massacre of a small village. |

The remake I enjoyed more than I thought I would, though it was definitely inspired by SAW and all of the post-SAW torture themed movies. |

HOSTEL- I remember thinking this would be a run of the mill horror film. Boy was I wrong. I know the movie is a Saw clone (of sorts) but that doesn't take away from how disturbing the movie is.
SILENT HILL- The video game (the first one) is disturbing on so many levels. And the elements that made the game disturbing were brought to life on film. Cybil's death by fire scene is gruesome because you actually see it. The camera doesn't shy away. |

Unthinkable was another good one.Samuel L. Jackson plays an interrogator and tries to get info from someone the U.S is holding about a bomb hidden in the city.he uses any means necessary to get the guy to take.even removing fingers and toes.it's a very intense and kinda graphic.

Personally I think Hostel is far superior to SAW. But good to see another Hostel fan, Eli Roth and his films get a lot of hate amongst the horror community. |

I shouldn't say that Hostel is a clone of SAW. I believe it was inspired by SAW and Roth took things a lot further with the shock value. Roth took a man's desire for sex (and having some seedy sex with a hooker in a hostel) and turned it into his worst nightmare. Well played Mr. Roth. |

Oh, I wasn't arguing that, even though I'm not a fan of the Saw franchise, I know it kickstarted the torture trend of the 2000's.

But the sequels? Eh.....I stopped at SAW III as the films were becoming silly. Wanna also add to this list House of 1000 Corpses. Freaky film...but then again....this is a Rob Zombie movie we are talking about here. |

Last House On Dead End Street (1977), though it was actually shot in 1972 it wasn't released until 1977, the original version under the title The Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell supposedly ran at 175 minutes, some of the scenes cut for the 1977 release were supposedly hardcore sex scenes. So far the 175 minute version has yet to surface.
Basically the film is about a man who is released from prison, hating society he gathers a small film crew and they begin making snuff films. |

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's movies are probably the grittiest movies like "Machete". Some a little stupid. Just off the top of my head I would say "SEVEN" was very gritty especially at the end. Freaked me out. And like you said "Fightclub" and "Snatch" were very cool movies.
