With shows like Big Bang Theory peaking in popularity, and seeing more nerdy guys hooking up with hotter women, is this true?

Ever seen the commercial where Paris Hilton is washing a car in a bikini eating a huge greasy cheeseburger? Well just like the reality is that tall thin sexy blondes like her. Do not keep that figure on a diet of greasy cheeseburgers. Nor do nerds date hot chicks like that. Now if the nerd is covering her monthly car payments, or giving her a spending allowance. Then that's a different story.

Geek culture is quite a thing now, with the internet and gaming. It can be a bit sexist though, or at least some people complain that it is and that it even excludes women.

I think the reality may be more like, Women exclude themselves from stuff like that.

To a certain extent that's true but there are a lot of girls that complain that video games are sexist and hostile to women. I used to play one of those online video games and it is one of the few that isn't so much like that and a lot of females do play that game and a bunch of them are also chat and forum moderators. On other sites what tends to happen is that women get intimidated by rape threats and insults, or they get a lot of jokes about making sandwiches and the like.

There's also things like Monty Python, which is still popular with geeks and stereotypes women as either dumb bimbos or batty old women.

That stuff was never aimed at a female audience in the first place but more and more of them are getting into it now. One of the main things that they complain about though is that there just aren't enough proper roles for women in those games and female characters are usually just put in for "eye candy" or to perform passive roles.

False. The geeky/nerdy conventions I've been to there were many women there. Same as horror conventions.

That all depends on your definition of "cool"

To me "cool" is someone who is true to themselves, that doesn't conform to the masses whether or not they are criticized or mocked for it, they stick to their convictions, and stand up for their beliefs.smokin :thumbsup:

Who's to say what goes with what. There's so many ingredients that make a stew. So I say stir the pot and let people pair off as they see fit.

one's area(s) and level of expertise will govern how far a conversation may go - regardless of gender

I think intelligence is preferred by the intelligent so that will be expected from women in our social circles - not meant to exclude women, but to prefer compatible companions

BTW (I am a nerd NOT a geek)flowerforyou tongue2

gamers aren;t the only geeks out there....and I admit not being entirely familiar with that culture

I also object to the comment made above that equates a woman's interest in an intelligent man (geek) to his ability to provide financially. that sounds like so much sour grapes. did it ever occur to anyone that we like intelligent men because intelligence is sexy AND interesting? whereas female bashing is boring nasty & ugly ....jus' sayin'....

my son's GF is a biomedical engineer I don;t think she needs his $$$ whoa

don;t you mean an AWESOME movie??? It was pretty sexist in some parts, but why would nerdy men be any more or less sexist than the prevailing male population at the time
