Is Nerd the new Cool?

I am thinking that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs
had their pick of women.

Exactly Soufie !!! and my first thought was Julia Roberts and "ex-husband" Lyle Lovett....

With shows like Big Bang Theory peaking in popularity, and seeing more nerdy guys hooking up with hotter women, is this true?

It really must be. Reminds me of a question I saw, which asked 'Why do I always see fat guys get the hot chicks?'. A typical question found on 'Yahoo Answers'. Not that me, myself, cares what weight anyone is. I just thought the question was kinda interesting. It takes all sorts to make a couple. My gran and grandad sometimes argue infront of us when tense, I question that. My mum has been with my stepdad for two decades, he's controlling, bossy, verbally abusive, always has to have all attention on him, mum doesn't like those traits, so wtf? Some people really confuse me as to why they're with who they are with. Some couple's make no sense. frustrated laugh

I've never watched The Big Bang Theory, so I'm not sure what depiction of nerd is your frame of reference.

But,
I have 3 different degrees in science, love Star Trek and Star Wars, have been to the ComiCon, the natural history museum and the zoo are two of my favorite outings and I think The Tick is an iconic cartoon.

I been told that I sound like a nerd, but I don't look like a nerd. What is that suppose to mean?
I'm just being me and looking for a guy that is comfortable enough with himself that he can let me be me

So are nerds hot?
Yeah, we have always been, to the right people ; D

Apparently. Have you heard of this thing called "the cult of celebrity"? Well, now there are geek celebrities that are popular successful people that other people want to be like.

Geek is just another clique.

No, never heard of "the cult of celebrity."

I do notice those who consider themselves geeks or nerds point it out on their profiles. Way more so than those who consider themselves cool.

Oh, "the cult of celebrity" is a phrase that you hear sometimes that refers to what has been going on in recent years where literally anyone can become famous and have millions of people fascinated by them and treating them like role models. There are reality TV stars, footballer's wives ("wags" as they are known because they are wives and girlfriends), glamour models like Katie Price and people who are just famous for being ritch, successful or "well connected". There are people who are just famous for being famous and have no actual talent and the media sells us stories and images of these people because people buy it and also because some celebrities and their agents are good at manipulating the media.

I suppose that some people say on their profiles that they are geeks because they want to seem different. You could come across as being vain if you described yourself as "cool" but saying that you are a geek is almost a "hipster" type of thing because it's like saying that you don't really care about being cool. Other people would probably just want to say that they are geeks because they want to meet people with similar interests. Geeks can tend to be rather pretentious because they think that they are clever and science is almost like a religion for them. They are often extremely pedantic and when geeks get together they can spend hours arguing semantics or arguing about how to pronounce a word in Elvish or Clingon. Many geeks are the sort of people that were bullied at school for not being cool and they think that that makes them different, so they seek out the company of other geeks.

Nerd is the new cool if that is what you tell yourself. (It ain't that new....Revenge of the nerds...rent it)

People believe what is most convenient for them.

"Money ain't everything "...poor people

"Beauty is only skin deep "...ugly people

"Love me for my mind "...fat people

"Size doesn't matter "...little peckers

If nerd is attainable ....go for it.

I don't know any adults who really still make those distinctions. Hopefully most of us learn to respect our differences and actually grow to appreciate those who don't fit in neat little boxes.

Besides, I think we all have a high school nerd in us. laugh

Just wanted to warn you....

At this very moment a horde of geeks are amassing just to get you for this very word. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Star Trek fans can be bloody thirsty.

Unless of course you were speaking of a language spoken by fabric softener fanatics. In which case, carry on.

did it ever occur to anyone that we like intelligent men because intelligence is sexy AND interesting?

Well I know I certainly did, for one. When will people learn that one type doesn't get ALL the women? D'oh. shocked

guys are weird....if it 's something THEY are NOT they think that's what women want?

A. We are not that unidimensional (I think I just invented a word - HA and I 'm not even a rapper)

B. concentrate on the self and stop worrying about "what women want" because if there are 1,000 women in a room you will get 1,0005 different answers ....

some will want nerds because intelligence is sexy....the rest will want a martinidrinker
