Topic: Sex and Single Christians | |
---|---|
There is something happening on this site that I find disturbing.
During conversations about sexual activity, it isn't uncommon for singles claiming to be Christians to condone sexual intercourse outside of marriage. Since such a thing happens in forums that involve non-Christians, I haven't challenged such thinking on biblical grounds, because non-Christians don't accept the Bible as their guide for living. So, I want to address this topic in this forum, so that Christians can talk among themselves about it without interference from non-Christians. So, how do single Christians who condone sexual intercourse outside of marriage reconcile their belief about sex to the teachings of the Bible? Is there just cause for Christians to condone sexual intercourse outside of marriage, or are Christians who do so just trying to serve two masters? |

That is a good question. I am currently tackling this question myself. I will be honest with you, I do think about sex. I want to get married someday. Right now, I have to be patient and work on myself. I still do think about sex.

when I was going up the pastor at the church we went used to say "don't ask a Christian how a Christian should live, ask a sinner how a Christian should live". I always thought that was pretty good...

Oh dear,Let me shoot myself before i start!! Uuuuuufffff
OK, Personally,i have been celibate for close to 4yrs-it was a personal choice and i dont shout it from the rooftops either! Yes,i agree,i made a vow to myself and to The One Up High, but it was also for health purposes(am a counselor for HIV/AIDS,and i know what it can do,yet with all the promiscuity in my country..........) Although,as a youngster, these i wasnt thinking about..... To me,marriage IS between two people, blessed by God! But also,on the other hand,we are humans, weak of both body and spirit! Not many women can be celibate for even a year..... Yet,like in my case, marriageable men dont walk by everyday....what does a christian single do in such cases??? Because,to some, when the body demands-it demands and wants what it wants!! |

interesting approach for a pastor
christians are sinners, we all are,, christians are just repentant sinners,,,, |

There is no just cause for Christians to condone sexual intercourse outside of marriage, Sexual Immorality is a Sin. Do you not know your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All others sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (I Corinthians 6:15-20) NIV |

biblical marriage BEGAN at the cosummation, not with ceremony,,,or legal contract,,, MsHarmony my Scriptures are not in reference to a Ceremony! My Scriptures are in reference to "Fornication". If a man has sexual intercourse with someone other than his Wife, he is committing Fornication. Fornication is a Sin according to the Bible. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. (I Cornithians 6:13,14) kjv Added these Scriptures for a better Understanding. |

I agree, but I believe the confusion is in what defines the 'wife' if it requires a ceremony, a legal paper, or just the vow to each other before God there are many types of commitments/marriages, but when people say sex outside of marriage is a sin, they dont always specify what they define as 'marriage' |

So, how do single Christians who condone sexual intercourse outside of marriage reconcile their belief about sex to the teachings of the Bible?
I really have no opinion on this, because God has already ruled on it. |

To fail in proper hospitality was a serious offense. |

There are certain things that an individual must have in order to remain alive, such as oxygen, food, water, etc.
Sexual intercourse isn't one of those things. So, single Christians are fooling nobody but themselves by claiming that they must give their flesh sexual intercourse if that is what their flesh craves. Also, it is an error to try to re-define marriage in order to have an excuse for having sexual intercourse with someone to whom one is not legally married. In Romans chapter 7, the Apostle Paul reveals that he still struggled with personal sin despite the fact that he was an Apostle. In making such a revelation, Paul set an example for Christians to follow. If we are struggling with a particular sin, then we need to be honest and admit that the struggle exists, instead of making excuses for the particular sin. Our Heavenly Father knows that we will continue to sin while we remain on this side of Eternity, which why in the 1st chapter of 1 John we are told to confess our sins. It is all too common for us Christians to try to save face by refusing to acknowledge any temptation to sin, let alone to acknowledge giving in to temptation. However, the effort to save face does not work in the long run. |

Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?” |
