You just need to look outside the mainstream. While I agree that as a whole horror films from back then and even further back are better. There are still excellent horror films being made, you just won't find them released in mainstream cinemas.
Some excellent modern horror- House Of The Devil The Innkeepers The Dead The Children '08 The Orphanage Trick R Treat [Rec] V/H/S The Burrowers Dead Snow Cold Prey 1 and 2 Deadgirl Lake Mungo The Tunnel Doghouse The Cottage Grace The Loved Ones Wake Wood Bereavement Stake Land Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil Not to say there aren't good horror being released in the mainstream, the most recent is Mama. |

There are different types of horror movies. A lot now try to gross people out with blood and guts. Normally called slasher films. But then you have some like to keep you on the edge of your set; they tend to fall more under the suspense and thriller categories. Some horror movies are even comical. Monster movie were considered horror at one time. It just depends on the type you are looking for.

If you like Ti West check out Trigger Man. The Theatre Bizzare is cool also and no Ti West didn't make it!

{color=maroon] There have also been some good mainstream horror films. One of the best (to me) is The Descent. However, I also felt that The Ring was done well (I know Ringu is probably better, but eh...I have a thing for Naomi Watts so hush! Lol)Let Me In was also a good horror flick. I do agree that all the bad mainstream horror films do outweigh the good ones. For instance, I feel the Paranormal Activity films have done more harm than good to horror films. But, when you can make a film for $5 million and have that movie make over $100 million then studios will keep giving us more of those films. Still, there are some good mainstream horror films out there.

Yep Ringu is better, so is Ringu 2, and Ringu 0: Birthday. But I do agree, there's definitely good ones getting released, you just need to dig through all the crap. |
