The responsibilty usually lies on the offended to not be offended and adapt their contradictory beliefs in light of what is known, not on the offender to alter or ignore facts just to appease the ignorant.

nothing is fact, they're all theories... sorry if you believe any different...

A team of Valley high schoolers and parents rally for a traditional prom that bans gays.

NBC 2's Paige Preusse reports how Sullivan High School says there's nothing legally they can do to allow it... several students and parents are taking matters into their own hands.

Several parents, students, and others who believe gays should be banned from the Sullivan High School prom met Sunday at the Sullivan First Christian Church.

"We don't agree with it and it's offensive to us," said Diana Medley.

Their idea is to create a separate...traditional prom.Students say there are several others from their high school who agree, but are afraid to take a stand.

"If we can get a good prom then we can convince more people to come and follow what they believe," said student Kynon Johnson.

And now they want everyone to know where they stand.

"We want to make the public see that we love the homosexuals, but we don't think it's right nor should it be accepted," said a local student.

But not all in the community think what they're doing is right.

"We shouldn't be condemning people, and that's what judgement is. Christ came to save the people not to condemn them."

Local man Jim Davis says we've all sinned...so why should gays be treated with less respect?

"Love them as a person. You don't have to love what they do, because the gays may not love all the mistakes you make," said Davis.

Diana Medley is a special education teacher in town. She doesn't believe anyone is born gay.

"I believe that it was life circumstances and they chose to be that way; God created everyone equal," said Medley.

"Homosexual students come to me with their problems, and I don't agree with them, but I care about them. It's the same thing with my special needs kids, I think God puts everyone in our lives for a reason," said Madley.

"'So the same goes for gays? Do you think they have a purpose in life?' No I honestly don't. Sorry, but I don't. I don't understand it. A gay person isn't going to come up and make some change unless it's to realize that it was a choice and they're choosing God," said Medley.

Several local pastors support the separate prom movement.

"Christians have always been prepared for a fight. Jesus gave us armor for the front, not the back; we're not running anymore," said Bill Phegley with Carlisle Church.

Others, on the other hand, think they're casting stones... instead of spreading love.

"The feeling of being loved and belonging is universal," said Davis.

it might be a good idea for a church to host a private event for heterosexual couples

Im pretty sure the school cant support it because of taxpayer funds

WTF did i just read... please someone tell me this is fake lol.
If not, my advise would be just to surround the town with tanks, to make sure that none except the gay people living there can leave...and then burn the entire thing with Napalm...including the people. They are just a waste of oxygen and they should not be allowed to pass their genes to a future generation. lol

are you insane?

Insanity is nothing more than Geniality without the success attached to it, so...maybe? ;)
And no, I was joking...i didn't mean it literally. I used a mix of satire, exaggeration, a little touch of sarcasm and absurd to make my point across... because that is how smart people make humor and express an idea at the same time. You just have to read between the lines :P

i c... just like any other group, besides whites, they can have their own prom, and have just as much fun... while i don't believe in religion, i think they should have the right to agree or disagree with whatever they want, without having to be napalmed by tanks...
drinker

Here is a very basic legal principle: "Your rights end where the rights of the other began". Their right to have their own prom ends when the right to not be discriminated or segregated of others begins.

its much simpler than that

the right to not be discriminated against doesnt apply to PRIVATE property or events,,,

just taxpayer supported ones

so, a private , invitation only affair, would be the wisest choice,,,

Going back to the subject, i still stand by this: Here is a very basic legal principle: "Your rights end where the rights of the other began". Their right to have their own prom ends when the right to not be discriminated or segregated of others begins.

your right, it's discrimination no matter how you look at it... but why would the gays want to be around a bunch of haters? they could each have their owns proms, without discriminating each other in the process... i wouldn't want to go to a gay prom, so why would they want to go to a straight prom?

Well I am not gay so I can not reply from a personal point of view, but if i had to theorize i would say that its because they are not discriminating people themselves.
In a generalizing approach i would say that Its ok to gather with similar people in certain circumstances...it simply is more practical but its not a principal to live by. As a society we should always aim to include others into our ranks. Specially in general interest events such as a prom.
Diversity helps us to understand each other better, gives us a wider view of the world thus makes us better as individuals and as a group.
Also, there is the pride issue, which is completely understandable. All humans want to be recognizes as equals regardless of accidental characteristics such as gender, sex orientation, or physical appearance.

society tells us that we have to accept, whether we want to or not. I personally don't agree with gays, but the government says i have to. and we are not all equal. our status, income, jobs are all not equal. most gays don't want equality, they want more. i should have the right to walk down the street and not see one guy leading another guy with leash connected to a a dog collar and nipple rings...

its not even that harsh, in my opinion

by saying we have the right to exclude 'gays' or agree with 'gays' , it makes it about the person

but we should certainly be able to decide in private groups and areas what 'behaviors' we will encourage or accept

The students who want a "traditional" prom simply don't want to be forced to witness behavior that they consider to be immoral, such as homosexual behavior. That behavior is chosen even if the emotions behind it aren't.

What should be done in this case depends on whether the prom is a public school event or a completely private event.

If it were an official school event, and if the school were a public school in the USA, then the prom would have to be open to all students regardless of their sexual orientation.

However, the First Amendment guarantees the students the right of peaceful assembly, meaning that they could participate in a completely private prom in which homosexual behavior is banned. The students could also participate in a completely private prom in which homosexual behavior is permitted.

you said it more elegantly than I could

its not the 'people' , its the behavior that isnt necessarily wanted, and thats the choice of anyone who holds a private event

not the choice of those in a public school though, unless the laws dictate the behavior is intolerable,, which it no longer does

there is no fact that any are born gay... just a myth

or a theory,,,,lol

I dont believe it either, but I will no more be able to prove it untrue than the medical profession has been able to prove it true,,,
