If a Older man has a lady best friend, would she be the right one for him, should he decide to get married some day?
I say No, men rarely marry a best friend, especially if he has known her for some years. Men like excitement and she is not that. |

Huh?
I forgot to read the manual on How men are "Supposed to Be". Can you not just follow your heart... treat another (her) respectfully? I couldn't think of nothing finer than marry a best friend. I certainly wouldn't want to marry an enemy. |

I am AMAZED at all those that think there are RULES for EVERY SITUATION.
I married my best friend, we had problems, but show me ANY FIENDSHIP that doesn't. I would rather have a person, I feel I can trust thru thick & thin; then the most exciting thing I can think of. General ideas work, but NO RULES ARE SET IN STONE. Try to go with the flow & allow people their own space; with RESPECT. |

Generally speaking, Most men do not marry their best friend. Some married men have female best friends, that are not their wife. I was trying to get an idea of how other feel about this. So, unless more people respond, I only have two answers.
Most men like excitement and if they are Older men, then they really like excitement, meaning something that stimulates them, not someone they have known for years, as just a friend, like a buddy. Romance is not rapped up in a buddy type friendship. Many people want to know the person and be friends first before any real Romance happens, but how long does that take really, maybe six months to a year I'd say!!! Just Friends, rarely talk Romantic to one another. |

My husband and I were "just friends" and nothing more for 2 straight years..We fell in love at some point and got married and did "good" together...My husband and I were happily married for nearly 25 years until he passed away...Our life was exciting because we both came up with new ideas all the time and went on "new adventures" together!

I wish everyone could experience what WE had. |

Greeneyes that is a wonderful story, thanks for sharing. That is sad that it really does not happen for Many couples the way it did for you two.

TOODY, I feel great pity, for in MY OPINION; the best I have EVER felt was talking ROMANTICALLY GWEN. I wish everyone could experience what WE had. Oldsage no need to feel pity. Many couples do not start off are have what you had in a marriage. Often times, men and women do not choose a spouse just because they were close friends first. Since people just mostly view here, and not many post it is really hard to say how Most people feel about this topic ONLINE. Great it happened for You! |

I would marry a best friend because she would know all my secrets. Most single men, do not even have a Lady Best friend. I mean a platonic friendship, not one with benefits. |

It's great that we're all unique individuals in our own right! Life would sure be boring if we were all clones and carbon-copies of each other. Don't you think? Yes, I agree. Thanks all You who are seeking good friendships first. |
