Because of my lifestyle, work, health I have to spend time in a couple (sometimes up to 4)different places. Basically I live at my work. This year I'm in San Diego, Ohio, Chicago and Vegas. Vegas is usually my mainstay but this year (unfortunately) it looks like most of my time will be in the Ohio/Chicago areas. In each of these places there are two things that make my stay a happy one or one that is insufferable at best. One a listening room to enjoy my music and two the bedroom that becomes a sleeping/writing area. Over the many years of doing this I have noticed that I have gravitated toward certain types of feel as far as furniture goes and can tell a big difference if my vibe is off. Yes, furniture is now a vibe for me and it can throw me into productivity or uselessness.

Believe it or not the height of my bed has become one of those things that plays a big part in comfort and vibe for me. I have a hard time doing tall beds that have the 2 pieces plus the elevated frame. For me there is something unstable about this and it makes me not feel grounded. As a result way before platform beds were the fashion rage I started making them for myself and now rarely have a bed that is more than 18" off of the floor. A couple of times I built the bed into the floor where the bed was even with the flooring. I'm doing a different Ohio place now and have my bed built in to where it feels like your bed is even with the tables surrounding it except for where you get out of bed in one of the corners. So you crawl into bed from that corner instead of rolling in and out of the side of the bed which is usually the way most have it. My friends who have stopped by during the construction think this is weird or (michaelish), with a couple of them thinking this is very hip.

Do you have a preference to the height of your bed and have you ever thought about why?

Low. Sleeping floor level seems natural to me. As I age I'm looking for an even sitting position.
Realizing this topic may not be aimed at the likes of me, I answered because you impress me as an intuitive.

I like one of the height where, when I am getting out I can just go to a standing position.

Floor level is hard on my back when getting up

I like a higher bed. I have an antique school desk with attached seat that serves as my night stand. It is nice to have it level with my bed to see the clock when I wake up during the night. Also, with a higher bed, I can use the space under the bed to store out of season clothing, wrapping paper box and the candle box out of the way.

I was working in retail furniture when I was hit by a car in '99, which had originally left me paralyzed on one side AND required a different approach to sleeping, waking and living in general.. after hearing the story, a pal at Serta called home to offer his condolences and asked if there was anything his company could do.. I told him I could use a new bed.. we worked together on it for about a week (designing specs of height, bounce/flex.. etc) and came up with a design that would be helpful and comfortable enough (they later marketed a similar design to the public that did very well).. because of my relationship with Serta they gave me the bed as a gesture of support and appreciation along with a guarantee of 20 years..

the design is simple.. the 800 coil mattress is 23" thick with both memory & dense foam pillow tops (on both sides) and a full 8" box constructed of a wood base with another 800 coils.. the total height of the mattress is 39" (which standing, I just have to 'lean' and my azz is on the bed..) so when I get out of bed.. I'm immediately in a standing position.. (I also had to make my own sheets until another pal at a linen company took my designs and started marketing them.. and of course I managed to score a few high-end sets from them too )

I've built a 4 poster/canopy bed frame out of cedar to surround it AND at the foot of the bed is an antique seaman's chest that I've added stairs to so the pooch can some snuggle upon awaking and just before lights out.. the whole package gives an appearance of something out of King Arthur's time.. lol but I've never slept better in me LIFE bigsmile

oops typo blushing

I like a very high bed! I think it's because I view myself as a princess!

Kidding!I like a high bed because it's easier to roll out of bed and start my day.

I don't like a high or a low bed. Average height works fine for me.

Back when I was living in the dorms in college, there was this space above these 2 walk in closets. This is where I put my mattress. It was about 7 ft from the floor. Late at night, I'd jump down (barefoot) and head off to the restroom, then climb back up into bed. People next door would always know when I was getting up, because they'd hear a 'thud'.

Oh look...That floor has a blanket.

I don't particularly care, honestly.

I like a low bed. In fact, I like all my furniture low except a desk and desk chair. I'm fond of the vibe of contemporary styling.

I also prefer very small living spaces. I want to force myself to buy only things that truly make me happy or I use often.

I'm too short for my tall bed and have to literally climb up into it, but the height makes it easier to slide off into a standing position ready for take off... btw, your lifestyle sounds pretty cool... and yes, furniture gives off vibes too... my vibes are more positive when everything is clean and in it's place... the lack of clutter around me seems to also clear the clutter in my head...
