MY computer is running very slow , and streaming too.

i have Toshiba lap top satelite, quad processor, 4 gb memory. I had run virus clean up, registery fix, defrag, disk clean up, delted temp files, etc. NOTHING HELPED.

I DID notice that the CPU tempreture is 70-80% of max , and the fan speed running at 90% of the Max.

any suggestions of what the problem is? and what i can do?

thank you rockstar,

but i need you to guide on two things 1- how do i find the top consuming session, and 2- what do i do after i find it.

thank you

First, the things you did... tend not to work or any kind of results that are human detectable that I am aware of.

Also a computer running slowly could be several different things and very difficult to narrow down.

The fact that the CPU is running hot could definitely be the cause. And frequently (in my experience) when a computer is running slow and there is no noticeable reason for it...often needs a new CPU.

Heres how you tell. If your on Windows (at least for Windows 7 and earlier) you right click the task bar at the bottom the screen. Go to Task Manager and click on the performance tab. This shows you the CPU usage. These Idle at different frequencies. At rest it should be pretty close to 0. Playing intensive applications (video games) will range from 25% - 70 % (during normal operation). Check for it getting pinned at 100% when playing a video game. Also If it spikes sharply at rest like up to 15%... could be the problem... any more then that and it prolly is.

Another common cause is overloaded HDD. If you partition your HDD or it just got filled up (HDD = Hard Drive). It often causes slow performance..especially when writing to disk... it has the tendency to lock up programs (hang them).

If you have an AMD processor it would make me even more suspicious that it was the CPU..Good news...AMD are power houses for a drop in the bucket compared to Intel...also noticeably shorter lives comparitivly.

Probably not the cause...although could be...probably not. I am a web-programmer... now true there are sites where you play video games and I do not actually visit these sites but a couple... this is USUALLY not the case .. but easily could be.most of the usage that seemed extremely CPU intensive ... seemed un-intentional... such as caught in an infinite loop during the JavaScript... this bogged down my CPU quite considerably ... Problem was gone as soon as I left the site...

You should be able to eliminate this as a possibility by simply running programs that are not over the Internet or on your browser.

First pc cant multitask or do real-time you need both to do the other.
Can be the anti virus u are using - what is it.
How many programs are u trying to run on startup or at "once"
2 defrag is old school really wont help.
crap files are more then just in temp - in prefetch in allot of other places too.
Get ccleaner then u have to config it right- takes about 5 minutes but it will then speed up the system.

ok guys and thanks for your help and it seems that you need some more info

1- i have windows7- 64 bit
2- hard disk is 275 gb, 240 of it is free
3- processor AMD A6 APU WITH Radeon HD GRAPHICS 1.4 Ghz
( quad processors)
4- RAM 4 Gb
5- system 64-bit operating system

i use my computer mainly to watch u tube, movies, ms word and excell. Not many programs there either.

when at idel, the cpu usage is between 0-10%
memory usage when idel or when i have three stations going is around 1.8 GB

CPU TEMP IS ALWAYS AROUND 70% OF MAX ( IS THERE A GUIDE LINE FOR LIMITS?)

FAN SPEED IS ALWAYS AROUND 80-90% OF MAX.

HOPE THIS INFO SHEDS SOME LITE ON WHAT I SHOULD TRY TO DO NEXT.

Problem 1 and 2

amd AND ati

Not he best of either the cpu or the gpu worlds
Slower and poorer of them .

Having said that your system shouldn't be crawling as you suggest.
What anti virus program are u using if any.

1. Install and config ccleaner

2. My fans run all the time as they are designed to - maybe yours are too.

then again if a laptop urs shouldnt run like that then again its amd and they always run hot and problematic.

3. If you never formatted it I suggest you do that and only install the operating system and drivers and the programs you need. The new systems when bought from stores have all kinds of crap on them and are best to do a total format and delete all partitions. yes, wipe the recover partitions as that is where viruses can and do hide.Yeah, turn of the restore area of windows. Does linux or Unix have it no, and for good reason. Viruses hide there and ur just restoring other errors that are stored there from previous stored points.

Your CPU is an AMD and acting abnormally; totally makes me suspect the CPU. AMD's though great power wise (high frequencies and great price) tend to overheat easier then their Intel counterparts. Look into cooling systems (fans, liquid coolers ect.) and new CPUs.

Most likely the problem..... a chance it is not though.

without stating the obvious, have you checked your fan?

it might be running but can still clog up. I would clean it or if necessary replace it. Your CPU should not be running at them temps.

Yes it could be a faulty one but it is more likely it is not being cooled properly.

Also check your updates, sometimes you get compatibility issues if the rest of your system isnt updated properly and then microsoft chuck another update at you

u have a quad core that's only a 1.4????

275 seems like small disk space to me but u must do e'thing web based if it's not full much. are you sure it's not the net and too many windows open?

1.4??? are u sure?

ok guys, after trying all you suggested and all that i had already tried, and nothing really worked, here is what i did that resolved the whole problem,,,,,,,,,,

1- i compied all my files to a disk.

2- i reinstalled windows7

wahoooo my computer is back to brand new.

the only draw back is i have to down load the other programs,, like yahoo messenger, real player ,,,etc. but this is nothing compared to the agony of having a slow computer.

I am not sure if this is the best solution, but it worked for me.

thank you again for all who tried to help me with their advice.

Windows7 has a nice little trick up its sleeve that im sure most of the techs will know about but thought worth mentioning anyway.

I find the quickest way to check the energy efficiency of a system, from Dos, is to do the following.

Start > Search; type; cmd

Right click on; Command Prompt > Run as Administrator.

A dos shell will open up,

Type: cd %userprofile%/Desktop (note the space between 'cd' and '%')

Then type: powercfg -energy (Note to space between 'g' and '-' ) then press Enter

Wait 60 seconds for doss to examine the system.

Dos will then display advisory finds...

Close down the dos shell and go to desktop nd look for a file called 'energy report.html'

I use this all the time to check-out the health of customers laptops.

Hope this helps.
