A boy and his dog. Don Johnson Vic is Don Johnson before the coolness of Miami Vice. He’s skinny, dark, and lacks subtlety as an actor. Fortunately, the role doesn’t require much subtlety. He is believable and at times, the audience may actually root for him. As for Blood, I don’t know who the voice actor is, but the dog is to-die-for cute. Rent it on Netflix. This is a great film. Seen it many times. |

The Baby '73
Great odd little flick about a social worker who investigates a family and their "baby". Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAb3J7WONhE Equinox '70 Two couples out for a picnic discover a mysterious book in a cave. Various monsters from another dimension try to retrieve it. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE1UlPPId-o Equinox had a huge impact on me as a kid. It's one of the first, if not the first movie my family rented for our first VCR back in early 80's. It basically started by love and appreciation for non-Hollywood mainstream cinema, it didn't need a mega-budget to keep this kid entertained. There's 2 versions of the film, the original was a student film by future effects maestros Dennis Muren(who would go on to create visual effects of George Lucas and James Cameron), David Allen, and Jim Danforth. The film was then re released with new footage to make the running time longer, and various changes to the plot for it's theatrical release. Fortunately both versions were released in the excellent 2-disc Criterion DVD release. |

Walkabout
The Coca-Cola Kid (with a creepy Eric Roberts) Little Big Man Solaris (the original in Russian, or maybe Polish?) The Red Shoes Smilla's Sense of Snow I didn't know A Boy and His Dog was made into a movie. That dog looks nothing like what I imagined of the dog in the story, which definitely was not cute. Does the movie show what happened to the girl? |

Solaris is indeed Russian :)

What an AWESOME movie! I love the three card monty scam. That reminds me of another one. I loved paper moon. I heard the boy and his dog movie was made out of a kind of joke, since it was the signature reply to the press constantly asking speilberg what he was working on. His stock answer was always 'A Boy and His Dog'. A Boy And His Dog wasn't made as a joke, it's based on Harlen Ellison's novel. It was released a few months before Spielberg became a household name with Jaws. I think it was just a coincidence :) |

I'm not so sure "A boy and his Dog" was not made as a joke.
It was quite revolutionary for its time and it was very funny in a dark way. |

Well, the story was certainly not written as a joke. Harlan Ellison laid his guts on the page in everything he wrote.

Since we're sharing movie trivia, in Hunter's Blood while the baddies are pursuing the leads, one of the baddies falls out of the back of the pick up, that's none other than Billy Bob Thornton. |

Sante Fe, 1960. An unemployed milkman and his brother-in-law end up in Los Angeles, where they become guinea pigs in a cryogenics experiment. After 29 years of being frozen, the two are awoken accidentally and must now attempt to cope with the realities of America in the 1990's and their middle-aged loved ones. One of my favorite all-time movies, if you have not seen it, well, it is such a treat :-) |

Great film! Came out around the same time as the more well known similar themed movie with Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis- Forever Young. Ya, they filmed at the lighthouse in Newport, Oregon for that final scene :-) I thought 'Late For Dinner' was way better of the two. |

Knightriders
A traveling troupe of jousters and performers are slowly cracking under the pressure of hick cops, financial troubles and their failure to live up to their own ideals. The group's leader, King Billy, is increasingly unable to maintain his warrior's rule while the Black Knight is being tempted away to LA and stardom, as they all have to ask why they were here in the first place. This is George A Romero's only non-horror film. This is my personal favorite Ed Harris performance. Some outstanding motorcycle stunts. Bit of trivia: Stephen King and wife Tabitha make a cameo appearance as spectators. Fantasy artist Boris Vallejo did the poster art. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJIbhIB5gNw |
