Shortly after the Constitution was sent to the people for ratification, anti-federalists warned that the Constitution would make the federal government too strong in relation to the people. Not so, replied the Federalists. Tench Coxe — an ally of James Madison and Alexander Hamilton who would later serve in the Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison administrations — explained:

"The power of the sword, say the minority..., is in the hands of Congress. My friends and countrymen, it is not so, for The powers of the sword are in the hands of the yeomanry of America from sixteen to sixty. The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress has no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every terrible implement of the soldier are the birthright of Americans. The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments but where, I trust in God, it will always remain, in the hands of the people."

The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.

exactly. the RIGHT to keep and bear arms is there for a reason, and it has little to do with Duck hunting. It is for Defense. Of ones self, ones family, and fellow citizens.

I have often said that having a gun in the home was a ticking time bomb that was more likely going to take the life of a child. or innocent visitor, a senior suicide, or even been used in a domestic arguement than ever in the defense of the home.

However at 58 years old, rolling over at seven o'clock in the morning, to see two able bodied adult career thugs with a backpack standing not 25' from the foot of my bed prepareing to take their time helping themselves to what little I have sure makes me question that idea.

And yes I would have certainly preferred to had a gun to having to scramble to hide in a bathroom, call 911 and repeatedly have to plead with a dispatcher that I actually needed them to send help and wonder if they would get away before they did.

And now knowing that even though they actually bagged these charmers they are second felony strikers that are getting three hots, cots, the best medical care available in California, and free legal representation at taxpayer expense while I have to be available to go back and forth, for what may be a long trial process or even two trial processes, just to keep them both behind the revolveing doors a few months rather than continueing to plague my neighborhood and lower property values even more is really irritateing.

Would I have used the weapon in anything less than self defense; I doubt it, because I know that even a small hand gun will easily shoot through and through and could have harmed innocent bystanders, but I will not soon forget the terror I felt, and feel everytime anyone gets even remotely close to my property, anytime soon.

AND the idea that these pukes could help themself to food in my refrigerator, steal my medication, damage my lift, trample my garden, and maybe taken my life and now make me feel it is unsafe to even have my grandchildren visit, or my sons have a peaceful night's sleep, really burns everyone's hard earn rights to the ground doesn't it?

And since these same characters can again pal up with their gangbanger friends and come back in force, pretty much at will at night or anytime they decide they want to riot, don't kid yourself I am thinking about getting something with enough fire power to take them all out.

That was a fabulous post and a perfect argument as to why the right of ANY reasonable people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I hope you are sending a copy to Sen. Feinstein with carbon copies to Obama and your congressman. If enough people make it clear to them what is really thought about the anti-gun "push" they might quit pushing (for awhile anyway).

I suspect they'll think long & hard about what you tell them, most especially if your letter is not the only one they get.
